I just had my 3rd  (under warranty) ats "extreme" trany put in a last month. All i need to do is drive the monster around town for 15 min, just normal driving and its upwards of 240*-250*. The first 2 were the same way. Is it just the way they are? are all "built" trans prone to running hot or is it these?

I run between 180-200* on my built trans, 200* when layin on the throttle, 180* under normal driving, running the race tune.

240-250 is waaaaay to hot, I think the tranny fluid actually starts breaking down around the 260 mark and is toast between 280-300???

No that's too hot. Fluid level may be off? I have an ATS stage 2 and mine has never gotten hotter than 208. And that was sitting still in bumper to bumper traffic in 100 degree heat.

You're on your third Trans? Dang. Send an email to Mike Mineke or Clint. I hope they take care of you. I'm in the midst of dealing with the customer service side of things myself.

Call mike at Inglewood transmission, he is good people with good input, also, I had my trans built at ultimate transmission in meridian Idaho by Dave and Matt, they are also good people with a ton of knowledge, they have seen their fair share of ATS transmissions and may have some insight in the matter that would benefit you.

Good luck:thumb:

pretty simple? maybe ill dive into that today

Should only take an hour or so, I have read about guys using oven cleaner to break down the bugs n stuff, when I did mine I just lightly agitated both sides of the cooler with a soft nylon bristled brush dipped into a bucket with hot water and car wash, then hosed it out with an open ended hose with my thumb over the end to create a light pressure, then used air pressure from a blower nozzle from a distance of about 8". Just be carful, you don't want to damage the fins, and stuff some paper towel into the in and out ports for the trans fluid. I do this about once a year, usually in the fall after the bugs have dissipated.

I gotta say though, I wouldn't expect cleaning the trans cooler to drop your temps 40-50*, I would think there is something else goin on, also, have you looked into getting bigger trans cooler lines? Alligator diesel sells a set of 5/8" heavy duty trans cooler lines, maybe a set of those would help a little just by being able to move more fluid, just a thought, but again, I wouldn't expect that to drop your temps much either, although I do believe it may help some since you are running a built trans, which typically run a higher line pressure and move the fluid faster. I have a set and an upgraded cooler, and I will only see over 200* when towing 10k.

A clogged cooler can cause some very high temps.

Oh absolutely, I agree, but do you really think that just a clogged cooler would cause op's temps to hit 240-250* in 15 min of city driving? Also, if he's on the 3rd ATS trans, don't you think they would have asked and addressed that problem, being so simple? Especially after the second one, I'm willing to bet they screwed something up...

i dont even want to go down that road, if i blew up today id pay Wade for one of his tranny's and not even use the warranty.

I think im just going to get one of mikes trans coolers and see how that works, ive heard great things about them:thumb: especially if they drop me in the 200*, the truck has a little of 230k miles, lol, the cooler is pretty beat. thatll be the best ive seen sense the stocker was in her
