went boating to flamming gorge this weekend with my dad and baby brother/sisters, pulling my 35' toyhauler camp trailer over the twin sisters just outside of evenston whyoming (pretty nasty set of hills know for killing trucks) heard kind of a "howling" from the engine/transmision around 2500/3000RPM so i was watching my gauges, oil presure seamed kinda low to me but not sure where the duramaxes run so i took some pictures... would like some insight as to if it looks normal or not.

Mods are- lbz MP,Airraid Intake,5"Straight,Egr blocked, pcv rerouted, edge JwithA (i know i know... Efi will come when funds alllow)

The only thing Im not sure about is the oil press. but everything else looks the same as mine runs everyday or pulling 32' camper. I know a lot of time at cruising speed that my oil press. goes that low but I dont know if its ever that low at 2000 rpm. Under a load it always seems to jump back up.

Were both pic's taken at the same time? Is that the rpm you were running at when the oil pressure was there? Were you pulling up hill when you took the pic's?

oil pressure was pulling the hill towards the top. (alwasy has seamed low to me, at idle its almost on the red line, maybe like 10psi)

i do beileve the edge and rpm was cresting the top/starting down the back.
(but now my memory skips me and i cant remember for certain)

IMO thats real low pressure ,Last time my truck ran that low psi i had fuel in the oil! I would check into that. Also does pressure increase at higher rpm?

Just replaced my oil pump because of low presure, installed a manuel gauge to see if it was the gauge cluster and it was the exact same.If i could get the motor started i could tell you if it made a differance.

The oil was probably boiling hot. What does the pressure run when you're unloaded on flat ground?

Both my lly's run lower oil pressure than my lb7 or my lbz. It wasn't uncommon to see low oil pressure on a warm day pulling hills.

I have noticed at times mine seeming low as well. But mine always jumps up upon acceleration/increased RPM. I will keep an eye on mine today as I am hauling a pallet or two of White Oak hardwood flooring @ elevations above 6500 ft.

Does you edge read oil pressure? If so read it from that and see what it says. I know my gauge reads almost on the red at an idel but my edge reads 18-19. I can say I have never seen my cluster read that low while towing up a hill though.

I noticed my oil pressure was lower than normal when I towed a Cadillac back from TN if it doesn't downshift while pulling a hill it would be around 35-40 instead of 50-60, but soon as it downshifted it bounced back. Been fine since?

Mine reads barely off red @ idle as well.

Seems about right, since the 03+ trucks have the gauge scaled differently it looks scary but mine idles 20-25 psi but my gauge only reads 80 so it sits up higher and looks good at a glance.
