Ring & Pinion

Need to replace ring & pinion at best. Have anyone replaced ring & pinion with used parts? Yukon new set can be had for $475.00.

There's thousands in junk yards......not familiar with gear work. Is this common?

Thanks

I'm happy with my grizzly also, but they do make a little noise when turning sharp. You could try and find a used locker out of a Dodge 11.5 also, they are supposed to be more durable than the G80.

I just pulled the trigger on a AAM 11.5" posi LSD "dodge unit". I don't want a full locker in DD. TrueTrac seems like a waste of money compared to similar LSD Dodge unit.

my G80 is on its way out as well. ill be swapping to a dodge unit or a detroit true trac

Isn't the Dodge unit a Torsen design? (clutchless, load sensing).

Yes, DODGE uses the TORSEN whereas GM uses the EATON GOV-LOC. Personally the TORSEN works REALLY well so long as each tire has some traction. If one rear tire comes off the ground then they don't work at all. Just be careful with a TORSEN during turns, if you romp on it in a turn you will end up going straight.

You have to hit the brake pedal or gently apply emergency brake. I've read stories where Dodge owners weren't aware of this and used 4WD instead. LOL

I had excellent results AutoX'g with Torsen high-bias (T2R?) units. Love 'em. But they are not ideal for mud or ice. They are about the best design on wet or dry pavement.

I ripped my limited slip out drag racing, replaced it with a Dodge and no problems yet. I didn't want to hear or feel a Yukon or any other locker, although I'm sure the lockers are stronger.Dustin couldn't believe I ripped it out compared to as much abuse the rear in his truck had taken.
