I bought the LX277/48C/metal JD cart/tow spreader for $1800

I sold my LX277/with bagger/48C deck and 130 hours for $1500 and kept the cart and spreader.

I purchased my GX345/54C deck and 634 hours on it for $2300 from the original owner and had to replace only the battery.
It is a 8/10 tractor and runs like a top.

You just have to look around to get one for a good price, and have a trailer/cash available on a moments notice.

I enjoy buying them from frustrated owners and repairing/selling for a profit during the spring/summer. A little cleaning, paint touch-up, service and adjustments and you can turn a $500-$1000 profit in a weekend on a garden tractor.

My current GX345 was paid for by buying/repairing/re-selling four other tractors over a 3 month period.

My neighbor went and priced the new diesel 4xx series with blade, brush, mower, bagger cart, diesel and that makes for a price that goes out of limits because he just waves and says nice 332 there guy the new is really out of this world in price but nice. The blade for the 332 with cylinders was like$1k new but what a fit. As far as hydraulics response just throttle up a bit they are dual lift and left/right and act fast enough back then they didn't have return to dig or push positions without potentiometers on them. I just say let's go do it and it's ready to roll my satisfaction is just great with this machines job and no break downs. New stuff at Lowes must be Chinese it looks like beginner fab work and fit I'll have to look harder next time I see one there.

All simplicity tractors are made in wisconsin.....not china..........and FWIW Simplicity is the only tractor/lawn-mower mfg who did NOT sell out to the big box stores... ;)

The only non-american parts on the simplicity Legacys are the diesel engine (Daihatsu, japan), and the hydrostatic transmission (Kanzaki, also Japan). But then again the 332's engine is also japanese (yanmar)....I dont know what trans the 332 has in it....if I had to guess, maybe a Sundstrand?

I looked on Simplicity's web site, they are powering the XL with a Briggs Diesel-27HP.

Not so sure the Briggs is up to the same standards/reliability as a Yanmar is...........

I'll stick with me Green Deere.........;)

Tony its a daihatsu. Not a "briggs".... daihatsu is japanese (just like yanmar) and they know just as much about building diesels as yanmar does.....

Maybe it WAS a daihatsu, but if you look at the legacy line with a diesel it states Briggs in the specs.

http://www.amazon.com/Simplicity-Legacy-Diesel-Tractor-4-Wheel/dp/B004LEKVGO

27HP/952cc Briggs & Stratton Vanguard Diesel Engine Fuel injected for more power

What say you now ????? HMMMMMMM ???

What say I know?????? I say no Tony, it IS a daihatsu. ;) Come on give me a little credit here... :) Ive worked on many of these tractors/engines. They have a Briggs serial number on them and thats it. Every part is stamped with the Daihatsu "D" logo. Even the oil filters...sure they come in a Briggs red/black box, but they have Japanese writing on the filters. Just like when you buy Kawasaki parts.

I say that Briggs wanted to add a solid nice 3-cylinder diesel to their line but didnt really want to go through the trouble/money of R&D on a whole new engine by themselves, so they turned to a world-known Japanese manufacturer who already knows a LOT about building diesel engines (Daihatsu) and asked them "ok daihatsu, we need an engine roughly this size, making this much horsepower, with these style engine mounts". Daihatsu went to their existing line of 3-cylinder liquid cooled diesel engines that they already have been successfully building for years, made some different engine mounts, a custom flywheel, and voila, now you have a "BRIGGS & STRATTON" diesel engine.

Not to crap up the thread, but here are some real non-amazon pics of the "Briggs & Stratton" diesel. :)

Actually its not really like the GM/Isuzu thing...because the Briggs diesel is 99.9% daihatsu, designed/built in Japan, then all Briggs did was just asked for some custom motor mounts, and if it was ok for them to put their name on it.

So, in summary, its not the piece of shit you are assuming it is. Its every bit as good an engine as Deere's yanmars. They have had zero problems with them, they start great in the cold, etc...

Lawn tractor on steroids :roflmao: That thing is bad .

Ya me too. I had to go to tractordata.com and see exactly what they were talking about :D

hey now if I had a farm id have a big real tractor...but I dont...im not a farmer, and I dont pretend I am...I know people snicker at our "silly little lawn mowers", but 18 wheelers snicker at you guys when you cruise by in your dmax's too. For doing weekend chores around the house, its awesome...plowing our long driveway, mowing the lawn, the front end loader can lift about 500-600lbs, and the ROPS folds so I can get it into tight spaces. You cant very well mow your front lawn with a 13 liter deere 9560 now can you?

Our Legacy is gas though. :(

"Lawn tractors" and "riding mowers" dont have front-end loader capability, shaft-drive implements, ROPS, 3-point hitches, MFWD/4wd, 2 sets of aux/remote hydraulics and rear PTO's.... I like to think its a big tractor "in spirit". :) :p:

I give you that they do sound pretty handy around the house if you just have a couple of acres to maintain.
