I've gone about 10 years without getting a buck, then this year I get the 8, and then a 10 (both in Delaware), then take the biggest one in Maryland. 9 with a drop tine.

Crazy year!

Nice! Unfortunately I dont have a picture of the best one I ever shot, went on vacation a couple days after getting it, came home and someone stole the head.....I wonder what their story for getting it was?
Here's my 2 next best, got them 3 and 4 years ago. I havnt got a buck since, I have my eye on 2 different ones but cant get them, they're better than I am! BIG too!

Nice trophies gentlemen. I missed a nice one last year. :( Haven't taken one in a while now. Killed two decent ones two years in a row and haven't since. I'd really like to find a place to bow hunt again. It's so relaxing bow hunting. All the places I'm able to hunt just have trees on fence rows along fields. Great for rifle hunting but not bow hunting.

Congrats!!

Hehe it was a fox, my ancestors exterminated all of the coyotes around here before the bunny huggers got started.

Nice Larry, where do you elk hunt? There arent elk in TX are there?

Mitch, I actually shot the 2nd one of those with a muzzleloader. I prefer muzzleload hunting b/c we get the whole month of Dec to hunt vs 1 week in november for rifle. I do my rifle hunting out of the combine cab while picking corn. :D Muzzleloading I can actually get out and walk to where I want to be and the deer arent so spooky like rifle season.

Both were taken outside Durango Colorado, on the mountain above the Purgatory Ski Resort, Ist was a rifle hunt and 2nd muzzleloader, both were taken the 1st morning out of 5 day hunts, sitting around camp gets real boring, next time i'll wait a little longer. I've gotten lucky 3 out of 5 hunts with this outfitter, we're sitting out this year but drew for preference points, so we should draw for the first rifle season next year, that is if the economy doesnt keep getting worse.

Texas does have one free roaming elk herd in the Davis Mountains in west Texas, but there are multiple high fence ranches with elk, Thats just not very sporting.

Dang right! If an animal is confined, it should not be shot as a sport...I guess I'm going to stir the hornets nest:poop:, but I've been brought up a little different than some. 3k acres with one high fence around it is one thing, but 220 acres cross-fenced with high fences should be made illegal...:angry4:

Oh, and nice kills to all of you by the way. I've got my eye on a couple out in Mertzon, TX for the upcoming bow season. Can't wait to see how they look this year.

Nice job fellas!!

I agree and feel most will.

I'm not so sure I would feel good about bagging a trophy on anything high-fenced. But then again I wouldn't pay 15K for a 170 class buck anyway. 15K=alot of go fast parts.

I don't know about the high fence deal, 3k acres with a fence is pretty free ranging. A mature whitetail buck's territory range is about 1 sq mile (640 sq ft) so 3k is almost 470% bigger than that. That's pretty free ranging to me. Now a bunch of cross fences etc is a different story.

Would I ever hunt high cross fences? No, it's not sporting enough for me personally.

Would I ever say it should be made illegal though? No, because I don't have a right to push my view of the world on other people.

It's the same type of argument when people get mad at the guys driving Hummers because they waste fuel. If it's not my dollars in the tank, and I'm not part of the decision process in any way, why do I have a right to tell them what car to drive?

Agreed...sorry, I guess it's my upbringing and the way I grew up hunting. I hope I'm not causing too much heartburn on my feelings about it. I've just seen too much land out here in West Texas turn into "Hunter's" paradise land by high fencing and charging people through the nose to make a profit. Hope we're all good:hug:

I've always wanted to come to TX to hunt some of those whitetails you all have there. Not really because we are lacking them here, because we aren't, but just because. I don't really know why. I just want to.

I'd really like to go elk hunting out in Colorado or Montana amung many other things in lots of other places.

X2 Would love to go elk and bear hunting someday. But also i love Duck hunting there is nothing more exiciteing then calling to ducks to try and get them in close enough to shoot at. Just my opinion

The bigger elk was bugled in and the smaller was taken from horseback riding the ridges. I've got a pic of a bear we rode up on I think in my albums here.
