Not really sure but the way it is with the 83 I'm not sure the 87 will make it any better. You have to flow x amount of cfm to get it to do something and it's not magic. Build motor with injectors would obvious make a big difference but I am just talking about stock motor comparison on stock sticks. I'm about to drop it the an S363-68 T4 and see how it acts for comparison.

This is a perfect example as to why you don't spec turbos off of forum rave! Figure out what works best based off of desired Horsepower, Expected Use, and Tire size/Gear ratio. No need for an 800+HP capable turbo on a stock fueled truck. Thanks for posting that Mark!

My S362 is more fun to drive for where my power is at, than any other setup I have driven. Hands down. Excellent response & torque for days!

After owning a big single I'll probably won't go to one again I dislike it for dd I mean it spools fine and drives fine but I liked the 366 for a dd better as egts were lower across the board even peak egts were slightly better maybe it's tuning but I think next year sometime I'm Goin back to a 66 or 67 in the valley and doing a 83 on top

Though the 76 does hit hard when it lights lol

No problem Caleb, I'm sure you hear the same shit on the phone all the time too! Your wants and reality are for the most part never really close together. I always tell people on the phone to build it for the 98% of the time usage if you want to be happy with it because if you build for the 2% you will not be a happy camper with the day to day driveability and usage of the truck.:thumb:

This spring I switched from a S468, to Marks VGT 72 and the truck was way more fun to drive with the VGT, to each there own I guess, I will always choose the VGT.

you will never find someone who drive the truck the exact same way you do OP. you need to monitor your self and when you like to get into the throttle, how quick you like the turbo to come on, how much smoke you can deal with, how much and how heavy you tow, where you would like egts to be and if the setup you are going with is going to allow you to grow down the road should you want more power after a built motor or so on.

there is alot of people that said i should have ditched the stock turbo i have and go with a 366 over my 480. the problem there is a 366 wont spool at 1500rpm and the converter locked where i like to not have the truck down shift when im towing and have to slow through town. only way i found this out was by having a buddy drive the way i drove with his 366 triple setup. Then Russ spool test thread brought some turbos spool times to life.

Don't get a VVT for performance IMO.
At the risk of sounding like an a$$hole......Maybe you should go faster than 12.1 before you start telling people about what to do to their trucks......

Lol really? I made almost 1000hp with a VGT in the valley and it runs awesome. It wasn't out of fuel or air but that is just where we stopped to help keep the trans alive. Made 80#'s boost to 90#'s drive pressure. 100% driveable, actually just took a 1400 mile trip to Florida and it was like driving a stock truck around.

I hate seeing you post stuff like this cause not long ago,
you were asking and stating tons of stupid crap all the time and now all the sudden you know everything about how a "performance" build should be done.

I'm with Kyle. I wouldn't even consider getting rid of the VGT in the valley. My truck ran 10.5 at just shy of 7000lbs. I can completely clean up 100 overs at 2650us. I drive it everywhere and plan on towing my sled trailer all winter. On tune 1 it drives like a stock truck +100hp. Turn it to tune 5 and blow the tires off at 85-90mph. I'd love for any of the VGT haters to sit in my passenger seat and tell me it isn't the best setup on the market right now.

Edit: The fly dyno is coming out to MA on October 25th. I have 100% confidence that I will make 1050+hp at the wheels

I daily a 366 with 60% injectors and dual cp3s. I love it for a daily but going bigger next year was debating a bigger single or doing a twin set up.

I ran a danville 72 as a single, and now twinned. Towed with both, both setups towed and dd well. In my opinion, nothing spools like stock. Both setups still spool nice, and twins are great towing on the highway. This is just my input, good luck. Also mark is good people.

Lets add a little fuel to the fire

I just went to the world finals in texas from Idaho. It is a 1650 mile trip one way. I had my trusty lly towing my trusty LBZ. LLY has MPI standard twin kit with 30% overs. I tow on my 650hp tune. Was awesome till I popped a piston 90 miles outside of Ennis. SO, I had to unload the race truck, put a hitch on it, load the lly on the trailer and get to the race.

I showed up in Ennis, unhooked the trailer, threw on some drag radials and ran 11.8 to 12.0's on a 750hp tune. All of you are going, what the hell does this have to do with anything. Well, here it comes.

The LBZ has the Danville 3794 with a race cover s482FMW with 60% injectors. I made 13 1/4 mile passes, won the Super Diesel race and all was well. OH YEAH, I still have to get home. Put real tires back on the LBZ, Hooked up the trailer with the wounded LLY and headed back to Idaho 1650 miles away.

The moral of the story is this. With a combined weight of about 20K, the LBZ towed as easily as the lly. LLY got better fuel economy, butt the 1000hp capable LBZ "race truck" towed its busted ass home and never broke a sweat.

I have had several twin combo's on the truck including, MPI standard, stock vvt with GTX4202, 4294vvt with gtx4202, Danville 4294 with gt5533, Danville 4294 with GTX5518, GTX4294 with GTX5518. My current setup of the danville3794 with the 482 is by far the best daily driver, tow, spool up setup I have driven. The two GTX's made the most power, but I could have never towed with them without keeping rpm's above 2400. The 4294vvt setups I towed 1000's of miles with, but they certainly don't tow like the current setup.

There is not a setup out there that will beat the Danville 3794 twinned with a decent size primary for making power and being easily drivable and have towing capability.

Very good advice right there. Quoted for posterity, as common sense like this is pretty rare on this forum nowadays.

That's a great way to put it! Mind if I add that to my dialogue? LOL

If only I could get every customer to drive a setup like mine or Ruebens before making a decision...

god there is so much good information right in this thread for turbos. everyone who asks a question about a turbo should reference this thread.

seems like too many people follow whatever the trend is on the forum- currently seems to be gotta have a 472 or 475.

I was one of those idiots once and good thing Caleb (05LLY) steered me to my current setup.

I personally think tuning, injectors, sea level, convertor, truck weight and driver plays a huge role in this. It's hard to compare turbos without having the right convertor for the specific turbo.

Well I'm glad I decided to go this route with my truck. 3794/S480 is what I have decided on. With 60 over injectors. I may be talking with you later on your setup with some questions!

I love my laggy, smokey, pig of a turbo.

But seriously, I don't tow heavy with mine ever, just drive it every day and beat on it. I will say this, until I tuned my trans to go with the turbo, it wasn't much fun. Now it stays above 2k all the time. Its a blast to drive and puts a smile on my face each time. To each his own. I would never want to tow all the time with a single 400. It isnt much fun. For the average Joe a hogged out VGT probably is the best option. You have to be prepared for, and willing to accept the difference in how a larger single drives and acts before committing to one.

This is the first logical thing I've heard you say in a long time!! :roflmao: But it is true. There are times when a big old single is a great option but for most guys a modded VGT is a great compromise of performance and street manners. They get even better when you add an S400 atmospheric charger to stuff air down their throat!!

converter only does so much cause when its locked, it does nothing to help you
