I guess with high energy trauma sometimes you lose the blood flow in your actual bone. Without that blood flow there isn't any way for the bone to get nutrients to heal. Sometimes the bone will heal itself and restore blood flow and sometimes the bone just ends up dying. I've done a bunch of blood tests, and the results are all great. All my bone building and healing nutrients are on the high end of normal.
I'm trying to be optimistic, but after two failed surgeries, you start to get bummed out and try to prepare yourself for the worst. I had less than 5% callous bone at my 8 week CT scan, where I should have had 100%.
Even my Dr's were stumped. They used a bone graft, Bone morphogenetic protein, a bone growth stimulator, and a pre loaded plate to bring the two ends of the bones together, and nada....
I hope by some miracle that my bone will begin to heal off that 5% between now and next fall, otherwise I'll be looking at another big surgery, instead of just getting my hardware removed.
It is what it is, it just sucks. hahaha
