I am going to have Exergy hone them 80% to maybe 100% here in the near future and flow test / balance them... Again not because I think they are the culprit in my pistons melting but Becasue I am want to go bigger and would not mind a little reassurance they are in spec........

I like the way you think :D

Damn Jason you really no how to work a motor over :D JK sucks to hear but glad the block and rods are OK . I almost bet the pistons are that damaged more from over heating it than the way they were cut the over heat; heated the pistons to the point that the high pressure spray was able to erode and dish out like that , jmop but I am no expert just have witnessed similar looking pistons ( not near as bad ) from tearing a motor apart that had been severely over heated. .

Thanks, I will keep that in mind as I am not sure what exactly I need or am going to do as of now.. I have a Extra crank out of a LB7 sitting in the garage in good shape but I have no idea how many miles are on it. I dont know if I want to risk using that one, buy a low mileage one used or just buy a new one from Guy  A internally balanced Billet crank sounds nice about now :)

I dont like doing anything half a$$ed :D I also believe the overheating to be the biggest contributing factor in melting the pistons.. Lesson learned :)

Any one have a bore scope that fits through the glow plug hole?????? I may need to do some inspecting
I sure hope its not an issue on how the pistons were cut :mad::mad:
sorry to hear about your carnage Jason

Something has to be off for that erosion to be so widely off center. Either the spray pattern or bowl are off. That's terrible misfortune. Being that much off center with the flame, had to abnormally load parts all the way from the piston down to the crank. Were all the pistons eroded the exact same way? Same amount? How'd the Main bearings look? Are you going to have the rods checked for straightness? Being off less than the eye can see would cause problems in a new build couldn't it?

That sucks so bad dude. Your spirit is admirable. I'd be totally humbled.

Dude that sucks!

I wonder if you wouldn't take a couple of good, clean, close pics of both sides of the break for me?

I took a couple already and put them in my original thread (LLY GOES BOOM)
If you need more pics just let me know, but the quality will kinda suck since they are from my phone, as my Good digital Sony just broke:(

I really don't think that ^^ was the issue but a look see at your pistons wouldn't hurt;) You also have to remember I am exceptionally ruff on equipment and even though I did not have much time on this motor I put it through hell on a couple occasions...:)

Sh!t happens, I learned a couple things and will build it better this time for sure :thumb: Never dyno'd it but according to my MPH in the 1/4 and the online calculater here I would say (Roughly) mid/high 8's to low 900's WHP....

The pistons are all similar in erosion, some worse then others but a similar pattern none the less. The main bearing looked pretty good, only the one closest to the #2 journal showed significant wear but nothing that effected the Main's or rods/rod end caps in a visually negative way. Yes I plan on having the machine shop check them out to make sure they are still in spec but I would be very surprised if they weren't in spec after seeing the bearings.. I dont think my Injectors/spray pattern or the Bowles of the pistons were at fault personally. If you read my "truck fire thread" you would see my engine temp and EGT gauge were pegged completly in the BAD zone :booboo: :trueconfirmed: at a local sled pull were I pulled 3 consecutive times back to back. The truck never ran right after that night but I continued to drive it and also pulled one more time 2 months later. As Trent suggested, I think from the High engine temps and EGT's on stock pistons the Fuel pressure just shifted the tops of the (Melting) pistons in that spray pattern and then the pistons cooled and stayed that way.. JMHO....

Is that common for them to warp to a lop-sided position? I've never seen it. I have seen the uniform eroded star pattern & completely melted pistons but don't recall seeing any disformed so similarliy at each piston. Just doesn't seem right to me but I'm far from a anybody in regards to these engines, or any fir that matter. Just haven't seen a failure like yours before.
