Connecticut Bill Introduced to

Ban Possession of All Magazines Over 10 Rounds

State Police Prepared to Confiscate Magazines from Homes if Passed

A bill introduced in the Connecticut General Assembly (Raised Bill Number 1094) by anti-gun state Sen. Martin Looney (D) would ban the possession of any magazine (rifle, pistol or shotgun) capable of holding more than 10 rounds. If this bill passes, law-abiding gun owners will have to begin surrendering their magazines by July, or face confiscation by the state police and a felony charge. Again, this proposal would not only ban the sale of these magazines, but would make simple possession a felony. Any gun owner found in possession of any magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds will be in violation of this proposed law, regardless of whether it was legally purchased.

This draconian measure will also affect non-gun owners as all Connecticut tax payers will be forced to foot the bill for the extraordinary process of having police confiscate -- from law-abiding citizens -- the millions of magazines already in the state.

Making matters worse, manufacturers including Colt, C Products, Mec-Gar, OKAY Industries and Metalform will be directly affected by this legislation. That means a loss of jobs and tax revenue to the state.

Arbitrarily limiting magazine capacity and threatening law-abiding gun owners with confiscation and felony charges is beyond the pale. These magazines are utilized every day for home defense and the shooting sports. As part of the 1994 "Assault Weapons" ban, the production of higher capacity magazines was halted. This gun-control strategy soon proved to be a failure. A comprehensive study by the Centers for Disease Control -- hardly a pro-gun entity -- looked at the full panoply of gun-control measures, including this ban, and concluded that none could be proven to reduce crime. Another study, commissioned by Congress, found that bans were not effective since "the banned weapons and magazines were never used in more than a modest fraction of all gun murders."

NSSF is encouraging all gun owners, sportsmen and hunters to contact their state representative, senator and all members of the Judiciary Committee immediately and urge them to oppose Sen. Looney's magazine ban.

Wow... Following in California's footsteps I guess. Quick question... Since when are we worried about honest people owning guns? If a criminal can still go out on the street and get a full auto AK47 (do we really think he'll register that?) with armor piercing rounds and a 100 round drum magazine, why are we taking away or limiting the rights of citizens to have guns? I remember reading about being able to keep and bear arms somewhere. Oh yes. The US Constitution. It's sad.
Rant over... sorry.:D

What are they going to do about the gang members and criminals that have the magazines that are more than 10 rds. Do they honestly think that a convicted felon is going to walk down to the precinct and turn in his guns/magazines. It is not the honest citizens we have to worry about. I think they should find something else to do.

Clinton did this when he was in office, when i bought my Bushmaster AR-15 it had a pin in the clip so 9 rounds was all that would fit, and its a 20 rd mag. That ban expired and Bush never renewed it.

Nobody should be surprised.

The idiots in this state vote lock, stock and barrel for Democrats. We have a full complement of US Senators and Us House Reps, all lefties, and we have an overwhelming majority of State Senators and Reps that are lefties as well.

The only thing keeping our state somewhat sane was the fact that we had a Republican Gov, even though they were mostly RINO's they at least held the line.

This State has sucked for a long, long time. Calling and writing is a waste of time, I called those SOB's and wrote letters and emailed them for the last 24 years and it always falls on deaf ears.

Three more years and I am out of this state, and in the mean time if they do pass this POS law my father will have all of my "now illegal" items in safe storage in North Carolina out of the reach of this State and their Police State Mentality !!!

They can pound sand, they won't get anything that I have and I have a lot of Hi-Cap stuff from when I owned a Gun Store for 5 years.........;)

Not that I am advocating breaking any laws, but if you were to cut a hole in your sheetrock wall and place items inside it, say in a closet, and then tape/paint over it I doubt the "MAN" would find it as long as you are the only one who knows it is there.....:D......you would be surprised how easy you can hide things in plain site..........

I am not writing any letters, that will tip them off as to who has the Hi-Cap stuff and place you on the suspect list.

5 is the max in Canada.

Yup and I have never run into a situation when I was hunting where I needed more. Well, maybe when I was shooting gophers but that was with .22 rim fire long rifle.:D

Not sure why people need to arm themselves like Rambo "in case shit goes down". I've never seen the need anywhere I have lived. Maybe I have just been fortunate to never be fearful enough for my personal safety that I would need/want more than 5 rounds in anything.

It's one thing to be a firearm enthusiast but really-you guys are bitching cause they only want you to have 10 rounds in a magazine????? Just be happy y'all can carry a sidearm with or even on you in alot of states down there-cuz you can't up here. You can only transport it to/from a range or service shop. Talk about a PIA!!

Mind you, give them an inch and they will take a mile right? Next thing you know you will only be allowed to carry a cork gun-with a max of 5 rounds lol!

well having high cap vs 10 rounds whats the diffrence its just our right to have it and besides who wants to be playing with there ar or 9mm changing mags every couple seconds when you can have double if not more.

but again give an inch they take everythign. ct has no assult rifles allowed no fully auto like other states. stocks have to be pinned so much bs.

again its not the average joe its the crominals they dont follow the laws they do what they want thats why there criminals not rule followers.

I know alot of people are anti gun but it is our right and who is the first person you call when something goes wrong and your family is in danger you call someone with a GUN.

The problem is the government has no such power to regulate to this extent. I feel sorry for you canadians that let your government have so much power over your individual rights.

And as I've said a million times before, criminals by definition do not follow the law, any law against our individual rights only affects those who follow it.

What some unlucky folk are going to find out, is that some models of semi-automatic pistols that were designed for hi-cap magazines don't like the plugged magazines.

My S&W Sigma .40 cal never jams with the factory 15rnd mags, but the 10-rnd Gelding Version mags jam occasionally.

Lawmakers just need to pass stupid laws to justify their existence. The hi-cap mags will still be available, and it will just make criminals out of law-abiding gun enthusiasts.
