I have a new problem, today while on a Easter Hell ride, my truck decided to spit some coolant out the overflow tube. Hmmmmmmmmmmm Does this sound as bad as I think. Oil looks clean but Im thinking head gasket?? This has never happened before. Im gonna put a pressure tester on it tomorrow.

Unlike gas engines, when we blow a head gasket, it normally just blows gasses out into the waterjacket, not water into the cylinder.

You might want to do a compression test, but unless it's really hosed, it won't show.

If you get really bored, you can try and retorque the stock bolts.

we have been having alot of problems with headgaskets at work. there is a bulletin for a revised gasket and bolt torque sequence. our diesel guy has been doing one truck a week!

We have the exact same problem, most likely a head gasket, but I have heard of it being an injector cup. If you were running nitrous at the time, it is probably head gasket.

I was under the assumption that our headgaskets could withstand quiet a bit of beating and weren't really a concern. I hope you trace the problem down soon.

UHH my truck must of missed that memo:rofl:

Is your ECT gauge all over the place?

Is your upper rad hose hard after shutting the truck down?

TX Cristopher would be the best member to talk to about this;)

Could you clarify "all over the place" mine will drop some while sitting and letting it idle in a drive thru, and it will usually rise from around 192 to 197 on a WOT run, it will drop to 180 or so while waiting in the drive thru........this is not the factory gauge fluctuating though its aftermarket.

Generally you will see a fluctuation under steady cruise.

Upper rad hose will get hard as a rock even before the truck is warm. Probably come out in the morning after letting it sit and will still be hard as a rock.

My guess is that they will withstand alot but the truck now has 97,000 miles and I've had some kind of tuning for 70k+ miles and the last 45-50 has been pretty tough driving, so maybe over time the head bolts are starting to feel the pain??????? Don't know? I still havent had time to pressure test it or even examine it much so I just put a Little tune back in for now and I'm being easy on the old girl.

the nitrous is probably what did it in shawn :(

my buddy has 50-something thousand miles on his LLY and is running an Aurora 5000 with stock head bolts and his are fine. I have 84k miles on my truck with the HTT turbo and mine are fine too. Both of our trucks have never run anything but diesel only. We also max our timing out at 28*.

Well my LLY did it at 82k miles tuning only with a stock tranny.... guess that just shows Im hard on things LOL.

I drive like a animal myself!!

BEN I havent run N20 since OCT so I guess it could have been the problem but It was a direct result but im sure it didnt help!

Have had both tuned and stock work trucks with the headgasket problem. Dont think its boost, beating or nitrous. Just hit or miss like the LB7 injectors I am starting to think.

Rock Hard as far as I knew was not normal after checking in the morning:confused:
this would mean you would have high pressure on the the coolant system:confused:

Not tryying to argue,But this was a issue after every time i blew head gaskets:(

looking at the volume in the tank was pointless as cylinder pressure kept the volume normal:(

minor flux is fine,Im talking overheat to under heat was my symtoms
hwy was normal and then hit a hill and wham over heat then go down the other side and real low temps:confused: it was all over the place larry

Its a wierd thing ive had 3 sets in 60K+ miles heads where refaced everytime just to make sure:mad:

Every time i denied that that was the problom,But it always was:confused:
the first time was the worst and i never seen over 28 psi boost

I figured it was just my luck:D

When my gaskets went I also had hard starting issues after long periods of the truck sitting ( over-night). Coolant was leaking into the cylinders and hydro-locking it. If you have this symptom you can verify by pulling out the glow-plugs and bumping it over with rags in front of the holes.
