Most setrab coolers are completely inadequate for your 15 gpm engine oil flow needs. Only one of them will stay unrestricted, it has 72 rows. I don't know what series you are using though. Just trying to help.

That's not what NASCAR says. They use Setrab off the shelf coolers.

If it is so inadequate, why would it be working so well? And that goes for the oil cooler as well as Mike's cooler which is a Setrab also. Of note also is the fact that the oil cooler was a originally a twin fan unit; I ordered it that way because I was afraid that it would not flow enough air in the location that i had to mount it in (about 1'6" forward of the fuel cooler). I found that with the fans and their shrouds removed the unit actually cooled a little better, albeit marginally. The extra expense for the fan equiped unit was a waste of money.

I'm not telling you what to do, I assume from your description, that you have a 920FP. All I can tell you is that restriction goes out of sight around 2000 rpm or so.

I would not have it on anything sporting greater than 8 gpm.

I am not picking apart anyones pride. I KNOW that the 20 row setrab experiences a buttload of restriction at our WOT flow rates. Marv at Setrab can run a simulation on this, 14 gpm, what is the psi drop. If over 2 psi, then reconsider carefully.

FWIW, depending on how you have it tapped in, there is a bypass in the housing for motor protection. It is there to bypass a catastrophic failure in the filter. You are likely into that bypass full time, as the cooler would be a big restriction at higher rpms. I'm going from memory, there is a long DP thread that has all this data on it.

I'll just shut up now. :)

Wouldn't that be accompanied by an increase in the oil pressure reading? And yes it is a 920 with 5/8" plumbing. A 920 is also used as the auxilary radiator.

No. The sensor for gauge pressure is downstream, so it won't be picked up.

I'm not a hater, or anything like that...just spouting off what I became aware of when I spec'd an oil cooler for this truck.

I also found that a stock truck, running 15W-40 in the winter, 30 degree morning, had nearly zero filtration flow until the oil got warmed up...all was in bypass. An irrelevant factoid.
