can someone explain the 1058 issue?

the 1058 issue is that it will not lock up in second gear with a boosted 4wd launch (i.e. drag racing). Mine (and every other one I've heard from) won't lock until 4th gear with a boosted launch. Locks fine in normal driving, towing, un-boosted wot launch, etc.

I guess it's not the end of the world, but does hurt the e.t. a bit. If you don't race then it's a non-issue. I am trying to get a recommendation and quote from Mike right now, same as I suggested to the original poster.

Ok, I figured that was the isuue at hand. But what else is there. Is it the stall RPM? I did a bunch of testing with mine back when everyone else noticed this issue and it was the same, yet I never tried a boosted launch....

it appears to be a slip issue. There is a limit in the tcm for how much slip it will allow and still command lockup, and apparently this converter behind a fairly modded truck crosses their max. They put that in to protect the stock single disc converter. So until (if) EFI Live can find the table I don't recommend that unit. If they find the table I'll definitely keep the converter because it really works well in every other facet. Mike should have something that would work correctly.

Overall truck mods will dictate which convertor suits your needs the best. The 1056 will do most anything but if you have any trouble spooling your selected turbo you will need more stall than it makes. With my setup I need a little more stall. When I take off from idle and increase speed easily I do not have an issue. When I take off moderately from idle there is about a 300-400 rpm flat spot for it to light the turbo. When I take off harder to eliminate the flat spot it spins. I would like the stall and the turbo lighting to come more in range with each other. Then the truck would light almost instantly and drive more like a gas truck except with a ton more power. Almost all the standard Suncoast convertors are tighter than a stock convertor and each have different characteristics. Hope this helps with your dilemma.

What about getting a 1058 turned into a 1054? Is that possible? I'd kind of like to get the problem fixed while my engine is out of the way.

they were able to turn my 1054 into a 1055 . i would call suncoast and ask .

Been trying for 2 years. No luck.
The longer you hold the converter boosted on the line the worse this problem gets. The bigger the turbo the worse it gets. Seems the window in the stator is too big and the pump in the Alli is sucking the fluid out of the converter. This problem has been around for a long time with the gassers and now with the increased power we are seeing in the diesels it has hit us.
Everone just hang in there and see what we come up with. I have talked to Terry at PI and will talk to Ron at SC.( That's right Suncoast the company that some stupid M/F's that don't know anything claim I don't use anymore.)
We will come up with an answer.

they quoted me $650 to do just that. If I would have thought to do it when mine was apart I'd probably opted for this option. I'm going to hold on a while and see if Mike can come up with something.

That still dosent answer why you wont replace it? after you said you would twice in pms once in public fourm on this board. or why you wont stand behind your warranty? if you dont want me in your shop fine send me a converter Ill put it in my self since you never charged me for labor to put my 58 in. and I will give you this pos back. Funny how me and you never had one issue not one untill i defended nick then you turn to bashing me. I meen i never evevn asked you for the $285 i paid for your moveing trucks to move your shop. remeber that? But yea im the bad guy here. I have herd from many others with the same issues. on this same thing. but hey must be my spin on right ? or my tune ? or mabey my motor build some how ?

hmmm 9:00 pm about the time i thought i would here something again from you. ha crossed the line. by payng full price for a converter that does not work? you call me a con artisit but hmm i recall a conversation of you telling me about takeing used alto clutches out of one trans and puting them in some one elses and selling them as new. and im the bad one yea ok. you constanly try to say nick stole tunes but have no proof you the fact remains i did nothing to you and becuase i did not follow along like a good little sheep and finally got fed up you got all pissy and decided not to take care of a issue. im not the first and know i wont be the last you have done this to. hows twisters truck? did kyle ever get his 57 he paid for? i kept quiet over this for a year becasue of your promises of a fix or replaceing the converter. you have not and new you never would. you told me for year it was my tuening spin ons the best is when you said it was my new motor build. but again here we are one more reply by you that has nothing to do with the issue at hand bad 1058s that dont do what they should. but here continue to try to derail the subject. carry on with your 6pack facts.
