It does fit, same diameter as the LLY.

I'll post pics of the comparison as soon as I get my BMW back on the road. New radiator to go in tomorrow. :(

I'll try and get picks this weekend.

I dont know if this fits in this thread, if not please move it to its own thread!

Upon changing the oil in my wifes truck i came across this,

DSC00448.jpg

I knew the charged air got hot but i never thought it got this hot, to melt the glow plug power wire and my pyrometer wire and the loom on both wires? This truck has never had a over heating issues or ever seen EGT;s over 1500 and even 1500 was only seen a few times?

Just thought id share, seemed to fit the thread!

Now it's going to need to be shortened because it is way longer than the LLY inlet. Either I shorten this piece or shorten my AFE tube. I'm leaning toward shortening this because it was only $50ish, the replacement torque tube is like $100. I've been looking for an LBZ intake to use but I would need the whole thing because they are totally different, I'd like to stick with my AFE if it's possible.

Since we're spending money, how about the Banks LBZ intake with the scoop, that would make for a nice little setup :D

Got Honey?
Craig, from the looks of it, that is a major improvement. Any chance you can get better lighting, and a close-up of the mouth area?

I see light at the end of this tunnel. The LBZ intake makes the most sense to me. I still need to rescale the MAF sensor voltage, and test IAT control. I know it is better than stock LLY.

Yeah, sorry about the pictures. They were impromptu just so you guys could see it. I'll get better pics of the inside right at the turbo mouth, and down the inside if I can. I'll also get the LLY inlet off my truck so you can see them together. I should be able to update the solo pictures tonight, comparison shots maybe this weekend.

LBZ inlet pics

Same inlet size as the LLY

This is going to be the tightest fit but it should go.

This is where the LBZ inlet is superior to the LLY, look how fat it is in this area right before the turbo. where the mounting tab is, is the smallest area by "eyeballin it" of the inlet with the exception of where the turbo plugs in. I can still fit my fist through that area without any problem but that would be the most restrictive, if any at all, before the turbo.

Unless a full LBZ air intake is used this side will have to be modified to mate up with the LLY intake. I'm guessing any LBZ air intake will bolt right.

This is the bend right before the turbo, looks to be a lot smoother than the pics of the LLY I've seen. It can probably be improved a bit but especially where the PCV and silencer openings are.

Looking through the silencer hole at the turbo end.

Down the air intake side toward the turbo end.

The only real "bottle neck" in this unit is where the silencer plugs in. There is still a lot more area in that part of the inlet than the actual turbo inlet, so it shouldn't pose too much of a restriction.

Let me know what you guys think in terms of closing up the PCV and silencer holes. I'm going to do away with them entirely and want to have the inside as smooth as possible.

Also, it has GARRETT stamped on the side, I don't know if garrett designed the LLY inlet but it would make since that the turbo manufacturer designs the inlet for their turbo.

Here's the part number: 98011738

this thing is tiny compared to the LBZ inlet. I know it's not scientific without side by sides. But, you can tell already that the LBZ inlet will dwarf the LLY inlet.

Fitment will be the only issue, but from just looking at it, I'm pretty sure it will fit.

Great shots Craig. How do you plan to shorten that piece though? It almost looks like you could just hack it off just before the 30' bend and it would be close to the right length.

The LBZ definately seems to be a significant upgrade to the system!
I am wondering if I should cut the LBZ intake to match my Banks LLY setup or if I should upgrade to the Banks LBZ setup.
Here is a list of the Banks parts needed.....not sure if you can get them individually, though:

94302 Hose Bellows 5.3"
42143 Filter Housing Cover
92868 Hose Clamp #88 (2x)
94301 Hose Turbo Intake
42152 Intake Tube, Ram-Air
