Compounds idea

I'd like some input on a a set of compounds I have been curious about. If a guy was going for instant spoolup while still supporting right around 900-1000 horse.

I had my stock turbo fitted with a regular cast 68mm wheel from a 4094. Nothing special at this moment. I'd put a better turbine and high flow vanes in it as well as port the turbine housing to compliment the 68mm compressor. A billet 68mm wheel would also be considered. At that point, it would be a stout little stock appearing turbo with near instant spool characteristics.

I'm curious how it would do with my s480 twinned with it. It is an 80/87/1.0, if I were to loosen the turbine side up to a 1.10 and keep it an 87mm turbine to maximize spool while still being able to flow alot of power through it.

So the turbo setup would be a Superstock turbo compounded with an 80/87/1.0 or 1.10..

I've heard some people talk about setups similar to this but I am not sure I've ever seen it in person. This is an option I'd be very curious to try out as I could make the remaining piping I'd need for not much money at all.

I think this twin setup would be sweet. Does anyone have similar setups to this?

I was literally thinking about 20 min ago that I wonder why you haven't thought about compounds with your new build.. I guess you have!

That polish job is nice!

It's not far off from what I'm running currently Mike. My 4094 is box stock though. Mark has some new vanes and some other goodies that are supposed to make these lazy bastards spool like stock...

Only time I get annoyed with mine is if I flat foot it, fogs out 3 lanes of traffic before sh*t gets real:rofl: Ease into the throttle nice and steady and it will haze but that's it.

Once the engines built, I will have Danville do a stg 2 conversion. Maybe even stg 3 gatted if Mark thinks I will have enough fuel with 60's to need it.

Wouldnt you need a T6 480 instead of the t4 footprint it is now? I loved my 66/80 setup. I have heard alot of good things about danville 72 / 483 setup with great driveabilty and big top end power. The setup you are talking about may be a bit lazy down low but with some good tuna may be sweet?

I have a Danville 72 with a cast s480. I pulled a fifth wheel, pulled other trailers, etc. I've seen more power than I need turned up. Hell playing on the street last weekend I did a 4wd boosted launch on tube 3 and hit 60. Spoils fast and is all I need, however I'm not looking for breaking records or trying to be the fastest truck out there. Shit cost to much when it fails and I got 3 girls at home, that costs money. Just my input.

Usually yes you would use a T6 housing.

I would think that if you were shooting for big power you would definitely need to gate around the valley and another big gate around the Atmo, since that t4 won't flow near as much as a t6 on the exhaust side.

Here's the final plan...

Bottom line is the 80/87/1.0 is to laggy for my liking. And i honestly have no use for an 80mm compressor.

I loved how my cast 72/83/.90 drove, probably my favorite turbo I have ran out of all the different turbo combos I've had. Even on a stock stall precision converter, it spooled great. So I want "that" back...

I just ordered a billet 72mm wheel, I'll be keeping the 87mm turbine and swapping my 1.0 housing back for a .90 housing. Billet 72/87/.90 combined with my suncoast 1055 converter should light extremely fast. I have a precision 46mm waste gate I'll be plumbing in as well.

And if I want more after the engine build then I will go back to my very first idea of compounding a garrett gt4718 over the s472. Will spool very well and make alot of power.

So there we have it Russ, I finally took my big ol build shit.

Due to the size of your high pressure turbo you'd need the S480 to be a T6 foot print. To get your 900-1000hp I'd think you'd need 96/1.32, maybe a 1.25 would get you there but I'm not super knowledgable.

Yea I knew a 96/1.32 would be the best in this scenario but I was basically trying to utilize what i already had/have.

My idea would spool very fast and probably be great in the 750hp range but like most have already mentioned, trying to squeeze 900+ out of the t4 87/1.10 in a compound setup would choke it up to much on an atmo charger.
