Coilovers for front Q

Here is what I have figured out based on research:

QA1 4855 shocks
Hyperco 10" long 900lb springs

*I can built anything else I need / beef up shock mounting points etc.

My question is ride height... my truck is lowered 3" in the front, any idea how this will compare? (obviously like to keep it about that same height)

Thanks for any help guys, I am pumped to do this in a couple weeks when I get paid. Would love to drop the weight of the t-bars and get all that crap out of the way.

i suggest re-enforcing the frame shock mount (if you decide to mount off that) but i doubt you plan on beating on it off road like i was planning mine out for and make sure the LCA bumpstop hits the arm before the shock bottoms out and that the UCA bottoms out on its bumpstop before the shock is at full extention and you should be good!

I will definitely beef it up if I don't change it completely.

Just hoping to get the ride height close (close enough the adjustment in the spring will be enough.... I know not many have done this so there is not a lot of info as to what length shock/ weight rating will get you X amount of height (drop) etc.

Wondering if I should go with say an 800lb shock instead because I can always crank up the pre-load to get a little more height if it's too low etc.

Hmmm.... that's the only really tricky part I'm thinking


I guess if I move the mounting location I will also have more control of height... hoping not to get that carried away though if I can help it. Be nice to stuff a coilover in the stock location, beef up the mounting, adjust the spring pre-load and be done

you should have no problom, mine are close to the middle in adjustment and with only minor amount of turns its really low

only difference is i used Swift springs

Did you do much bracing or change the mounts

No extra bracing

Here is a pic of my setup and the ride height , def stay with the heavier springs , with my 900 lb springs i have a fair amount of pre load , my truck is fairly light and as you can tell from my pics i could easily lower it a fair amount more , if you need more height do it in the mounting , not a ton of pre load . Kind of a crumby pic just went out and snapped a pic real quick with my phone .

So you used all the stock mounting hardware minus the top to adapt to an eyelet? How is the ride? Think it would last in a DD setup?

Ride is good , I have no clue how it would hold up for DD , but it has been fine for my uses , its been driven on the street but not a ton .

thats all in the shock valving and spring rate. You can make up for a soft spring rate by stiffening up the valving and adding preload but you will run the shock hotter and kill the oil in it sooner so it a balancing act.

Trent.... 900lb spring rate?? Are they measured different then most? 900lb would drop 1" for every 900lb of weight?!?! So you might get two inches of drop with a 900lb spring in a lite truck. How much compression/drop are you seeing in the spring?
