Cheap Twins Questions

So I want to twin my stock turbo. I know I need an s475 T6 1.32.

My question is can I just buy any s475 that meets these specs, or should I be worried about quality. Basically are they all the same?

It sure seems like I could save alot of money by buying the turbo and then just the pipe kit off of a vendor.

I'm looking for any opinions or advice I can get. :thumb:

an s475 is an s475...its all made by borg warner. its like asking if a ppe tuner from xtremediesel is better then one from underground diesel.

long as all the specs are the same (and the compressor cover) you're good

Most vendors wont sell just the pipes

I don't think you will save any money unless you build the kit yourself

I know a vendor that will sell just the kit with no turbo. And I think I could save alot of money.

Edit: Oh and thanks Beech. I might need to ask you a few questions about an LLY today. I'm gonna put EFI and DSP 5 on my dads truck, so be ready.

One thing to consider is if you by all from the same place you now have some one to go to if there are ever any issues with the turbo , and i will sell kits minus turbo, but only subtract what i pay for the turbo , not retail price .

That is not too far off of what most should be selling them for , I can sell them for 650-700 to your door ( pending location ) and i am a vendor here supporting this site ;)

Whats the smallest 475 config that will work ok over the stocker? Is running a t6 flange mandatory or would the right config t4 work? Just curious, I'm still running a stock trans :( So no go right now, but the throught of fabbing up a twin setup is on my mind a lot....

There is no reason to use anything other than the t-6 1.32 A/R , it is the cheapest model S475 , and is the best suited for twins .

A T-4 could be made to work if it had the bigger turbine , but would need to be external gated IMOP , in short it is almost 1400.00 more to go the T-4 and only get what you could have had with the T-6 to begin with , the T-4 would spool better but the T-6's work real nice and come on real smooth .

The 1.32 housings are a T6, the T4's are more expensive and are a smaller AR so it would be a good idea to wastegate them which would mean more $.

Just like Trent said, they sell for $650 shipped or more.

Ahh.. Yea your right, the 475 / t6 is a very affordable turbo...I see what you guys are saying.... now if my little 2.0 Subuaru motor could swing a turbo that big  :D  hehe

Is an S472 with the t6 1.32 turbine housing just too small to even bother? Reason I ask is that I'm at 7000ft so I've already got more lag.... (though some VVT tweaking has taken care of that pretty well)

Just throwing some thoughts out there, thanks for the quick info

The size of the secondary will not hurt your spool up in the 0-7 psi range and thats were most complain about "lag" in general , where you will notice changes in the secondary turbo as far as spooling goes are the 10-20 psi and up range .

Makes sense... compound turbos are such a "neat" thing :thumb:

Question is... buy the 475 and fab it up... and blow the Allison sky high.. or do it right and save, save, save and build the trans first lol (not as much fun)
