Charged for fixing coding tuning?

How do you come to that conclusion? I don't believe anyone has said that. In this particular case (all cases can be different) the OP stated the truck had a issue he KNEW it had a issue some THREE years ago. Sold the truck to a new owner and now he wants the problem corrected. So it should be free of charge? I believe there should be some time frame or a policy on after the sale service!

According to Rob he knew about the coding issue long ago. So ya it should be fixed. Now I think the OP should have handled this better and most likely Rob would have taken care of it. No a tuner shouldn't be responsible for updating a tune forever(unless of course that's part of the original deal), but in a case like this the tune was wrong to begin with regardless of how long it may have take the OP to request a fix.

If the OP dealt with the problem for three years then ended up selling the truck in the same condition, and now the new buyer has the problem it's between the seller and the buyer not the tuner.. If this weren't from so long ago or even if he still owned the truck I think it would change the scenario completely...

I agree with this. Shouldn't have ignored it for so long and should have been up front with the guy who bought the truck of the condition too.

Most if the time warranties apply to the original purchaser. Hypothetically, say Rib fixes or attempts to fix the truck for the OP and the new owner isn't happy. Where does it end? Rob cannot be responsible forever. This is a bad scenario for every person involved. There should be some written conditions. I usually put this in the comments section of the tune. I will also have guys that I tune in person sign such agreements. So the purchaser has a very good idea of how tuning changes could occur any addition charges at all. Some of that us subjective but most will be very clear. Some purchasers may want to be married for life and that is not the case. There has to be a definitive agreement for some if today's people. Things just get too technical and someone is responsible for someone else's actions or lack if actions.

I may not have handled this the right way. We emailed thoughts and agreed on pricing, I didn't know there was a problem and based my decision on what I did know and his emails.

I then see this post.

If the customer would of contacted me and said instead of "that's fine" (I assume then there is not a problem), hey I don't agree and look the truck was always running poorly and I feel you should fix it for the next owner, then we could of hashed what was wrong and come to a solution.

Its gonna happen, whether it was a bad day, or just a miscommunication with a customer. Any inconsequential mishap has the potential turn into something for the crickets to chirp about.

Standing behind a 3 year old "problem" that wasn't a problem for the first 3 years is dicey ground and any normal person that runs a business probably wouldn't consider that their problem, especially if the business relationship with that customer fizzled out or ended for whatever reason.

ATP has the best customer service out of all the diesel performance companies I've worked with. I'm sure that if the OP had let Rob know there was a problem it would've been resolved no problem, but instead he said it was fine which was just asking for a situation like this.

How do we know it's the tune causing the problem? Why did you wait 3 years to diagnose it? Why did you sell it knowing it had a problem?

I think the issue is between the buyer and seller. But I'm sure this can be worked out.

It was a little underhand of the OP to come on here, bit he didn't name names. After Rob saw this why didn't he just contact the OP instead of post carp here?

In Robs defense, the truck ran great for me the 3 years I drove it and I throughly enjoyed driving the truck...

Except when hooked to a heavy trailer on the highway, which I almost never did so I really had no grasp of the severity of the situation. Otherwise, I would have had Rob adjust it along time ago, it didnt cause me problems. And that's why we ran into problems. The truck does not code any other time than pulling a load up an on or off ramp or in hilly areas, so I seriously doubt it is a hard part issue...

Got in a local truck with a 68MM and another one with a 72MM and problem solved in less than two hours.

No problem lugging up hills, no problem making target boost, to Rob's credit if he has tuned hundreds as I am sure he has then maybe it has an issue.

But that is not my business nor is it anyone else's.

It's between Rob and his customer to figure it all out.

But often times there are other issues that need to be addressed and it isn't always the tuners problem.

We get blamed for everything from windows not rolling down to HVAC doors not working to ABS lights, I have seen it all in 9 years.
