**CHALLENGE** - TURBO LAG TEST using a log

Before the turbo is fine.

Josh and I played around on ours and in these tests and the difference in temp after the turbo is negligible. These short, low boost stabs were comparable on his stock turbo and my twins on temps at the y bridge.

That's very interesting and not at all what I would expext.

Any hot side temps?

I've been logging many different setups on the engine dyno and you guys might be alittle surprised by the data. I have seen hotside compressor outlet temps that ranged from 120-650degrees and cold side from 58-110degrees and I see on average a 1psi drop per 100degree drop in temp. Boost pressures from 32-100+psi. All of these were done using our custom water to air intercooler setup we designed just for the engine dyno for constant load testing. It works great for what we are doing for testing. :thumb:

Thats more along the lines of what I was expecting.
I am wondering if the cold intercooler metal is helping on these logs.
As in what would happen after the air to air is good and hot.

650 degrees!!! When I was at CTC they generally had a limit on compressor outlet of around 480 degrees. When you start pushing 500 those charge air boots don't last very long :thumb:

3 seconds to be exact... Pressure makes heat and a lot of it! Hot intercooler I have seen up to 150degrees IAT. The really cool part is a quality intercooler(Banks Technicooler, my favorite Banks product by far) does a great job of dissipating heat because of it's large surface area. It will take 100degree water and turn it to steam but the air temp coming out the other side it still within 60degrees of ambient.

On our comparisons, to 20psi the temp at the intake and y bridge was negligible between my truck and a stock turbo lbz.

I would expect big temp changes as you really push the limits. Never would have guessed 650deg though!!

New testing for ya

Here you go guys, my truck with a junkyard stock LMM motor same as before but I changed the turbo from my BMW GT3794va to a cast S468-83mm .90a/r and did the test for ya this morning. I was surprised by the dead stop test versus the 60mph test. Wasn't what I was expecting honestly. 3.20sec from a dead stop and 8.02sec at highway speed without it kicking down.

Mark, were you in 5th or 6th for the 1500rpm roll? The consensus was to use 5th gear, your mph looks high for 5th.

that standing launch for a single 68 isn't bad but holy crap that's laggy from a roll with the converter locked!!!

i dont believe we would see much drop in time from 6th to 5th being he was at 1500 rpm. maybe 1 sec.

Maybe not, but it's still a variable. I never compared the two myself to see what difference 5th to 6th made on mine.

I'll do more testing with the new truck gets ready. Should spool fast from a standstill with the 3000rpm stall :D

That was in 6th gr with my smaller tires on the truck. 5th might help a smidge but not a ton, I honestly drop all the way back to 4th if I want it to get motivated without looking like a complete ass. I will do the 87mm turbine also in the near future once I get the speed gauge cart installed.

Might go redo this another day this week...kinda wet so couldn't keep the tires planted, but here is my standstill-WOT time 20psi

LBZ, 366/80 .91 t4, 1058 converter, 265/75/16 tires, 46* OAT 64*IAT, 5250ft elevation, stock injectors, stock cp3, 3.76 seconds

Would've tried the roll test but the fuzz decided I needed to stop...wasn't even speeding at any point during this

The new Billet 68mm Stg2R VGT testing

So I did the test tonight on the way home to see the difference. 2.267sec. from a stop to 20psi and I didn't floor it just rolled into it. Everything is the same as last time just he turbo change. Pretty happy about that honestly!:thumb:
