I use to run a galaxy DX 73V and a 100 watt linear amp. Wasn't too shabby on distance for the price I paid. Took a ton of time to tune in though, that and two guys to help. I also learned not to chinz on the antenna.

I am reading a lot of good things about the Galaxi.

Galaxy is(or was) top of the line for us "hobby" guys. I know it served more function than I needed. They do carry a hefty price tag as well.

The only thing we ever found use for those was talking to your road/chasing deer across corn fields in a jeep hunting partner. Make sure you get it modified or its not worth it, not sure about these new ones though I had an old cobra in my K25

When I was driving a truck, the Galaxys seemed to be the best. I have a Cobra 29 classic in my truck now. Nothing special though. A good radio is worthless without a good antenna though.:thumb:

I have a Uniden but there is a Cobra in the silage truck I run. They are a must for custom farming. The mic with the "mouth guard" is a nice feature, also the retractor that keeps the mic hanging upright is very convenient.

On the interstate they can be a pita when the other drivers want to hear themselves talk...I just use it for keeping tabs on the chicken coops and getting smokey reports.

I don't know much about setup.

Mike, told you about this one when Sean and I were down at the shop.

Custom Cobra 25 unit from Sparky's. Great range and sound. I picked up a guy from cali when i was up in the AZ mountains.

If you call them they will know what you're talking about. It isnt on the website anymore.

Galaxy radio and a dave made linear. I have a galaxy 99 and a dave made 1000 watt linear, you can't beat the range. And like the others said get a good antenna. I used wilson for a while then swapped to predator and you wouldn't believe the difference.

I have a couple Cobras. 29ltd and a 25. The 29 is tuned up, I cant get very far but it does the job. I havent had it in the truck in a long time, kinda got out of that stuff. Plus I dont like the look of my antenna on my truck. The wiring is all setup though so I can just screw an antenna on (mount on bed between cab and bed) and the wires inside are under dash and I just set the cb on the trans hump. I have some velcro that grabs the carpet pretty good and doesnt slide around.

I may get the radio looked at and tuned up a little more, and get a better antenna and run it one of these days.

A linear would be nice, but again, Im not really into the hobby much anymore. In HS I had a couple good radios, 1 was a galaxy tuned pretty nice, also dabbed in the HAM radio stuff for awhile.

Connex 3300 is my choice, I have one of them and a galaxy33, they are the same except the galaxy is black. Big radios like the Galaxy DX95 have the amplifier built in, which is nice but they look like a microwave in the cab. I don't use them anymore, but I hear there are some killer amps out there now. I did have a messenger 800 and an Elite Line 550, and enjoyed them but we have switched to VHF around here.

Lots of choices. Galaxy, Connex, Superstar, all good ones. I had Superstar 3900 with couple of goodies on the backside of it. Astatic 636l mic. Upgraded coax and always a 102" steel whip. Kept RMS down. But some of the base load antennas are really good. Been out of it too long. Had my own tuner that I used to send tons of business because everyone loved my setup. Shoot me a PM if u need info on the "goodies".
