The engine had 250 PSI in one cylinder back around Texas 07, and at the Lancaster sledpull, blew a head gasket. We knew the engine was hurt pretty good, but kept running it.

We already had a backup engine for last year ProStreet racing, so we slapped it in after Bonneville and set the El Mirage LSR.

The only reason we didn't pull the engine prior to Bonneville is we ran out of time.

Kids, don't try this at home! :D

This is a professional stunt idiot with years of training. :joker:

Being "out of the hole" .005-.010 is fine. I normally get my pistons cut for zero deck height for extra clearance.

Yes, the pistons were coated, but they don't stand a chance against the heat we are running.

I'm going to hunt for an entire LBZ engine I think, since I "consume" parts anyhow.

I've seen a couple on ebay

holy shit.

pardon my french.

It would be interesting to know what temps you were running at Bonneville, etc.

What are you going with in respect to lowering it? how much of a drop total?

Looks Bad!

That there is some bad carnage!!! I just wonder how your figure NOS was the cause of that? That baby had some big time heat in her. Jeff

Well, the EGT gauge when it was working didn't go over 1400. Did it go higher on the last pass, I can't tell.

The reason I say nitrous eroded the 7 dents in the top of the pistons, is because it happened to us before. And some other folk, but I only talk about my truck.

We are going to take a 3 prong attack on piston temp: Oil, Water, Air, and cool all three to lower temps. We know the engine survived a nearly identical pass the day before without problems so it might just be the matter of 100 deg or less is the breaking point.

Yup, it sucks I didn't have working gauges.

Seriously Pat that is some pretty bad damage, but considering how hard you run it I cannot believe it lasted as long as it did. Thanks for the pictures and info. Good luck getting it back together.
