so i read somewhere that the only significant difference in these 2 is that the howards has some provision for oiling that the Carrillos don't come with but is available for a fee..

is this correct? if some can someone enlighten me a little about what it does and how important it is?

The piston end of the rod only gets splashed with oil. On a stock motor that is more than adequate. Some (previous owner of DP was one), noticed that under high boost and cylinder pressures that there was transfer/scoring of the rod bearing on the piston end. Having this hole supplies a constant stream of pressurized oil. While many have used rods without the oiling hole in high HP applications with minimal/no issue, I feel it's not a bad idea to have if you have not already installed the rods....FWIW.

gotcha... so for another $150 its definitely worth it right?

installed the same as a carrillo no need for any special work

I am running the Howard X-beams and they have worked flawlessly , they are a touch heavier than the Carrillo's but to be honest with our rotating mass you would never see any performance gain between any of the rods weight difference's IMOP . The Howards come with the modified Rod bearing to work with there oiling feature and they install just like any other rod but you have to use there bearings . also when comparing prices make sure the rods your comparing to come with rod bearings because the price of the Howards includes them.
