I'm pretty sure the ONLY way to get the crash data from the SDM in the event of a deployment event is to connect specialised equipment up directly to it. No even a tech2 or MDI can get at that data.

Would be fun to stick in the camaro but taht is pre OBD2 according to the VIN at least.

Otherwsie, tin foil hat stays on and they can assume I drive safe until accident or ticket says different.

On my 2013 Cruze, after the OnStar trial expired, they called me and offered me a year free if I would allow them to share driving data with State Farm (my insurance). This confirms what I suspected: OnStar can (and does) record your driving amount and style.

They gave me 6 months free for listening to their pitch (sweet), but to get the other 6 months, I had to agree to share the data. Yeah, no.

Here's the problem: State Farm asked me how far it is to work. I told them the truth: 12 miles. So they assume I drive about 8k miles a year. I actually drive about 22-25k a year (they didn't ask about vacation and road trips ). So there is NO WAY my rates would go down (probably would go up).

But hey, for the next few months I can remote start my car from my cell phone again! :roflmao:

you have to be certified through bosch to download and buy the equipment to get the data. The whole Toyota fiasco a couple yrs ago was a great time to make money.

Chances are they run a carfax every year anyway. I know my company does it.

I do all my own maintenance, and don't get in wrecks (well, ideally). So what would be on the carfax? No service records to betray my mileage...[/QUOTE

Here in the peoples republic of NY you need to get your vehicle inspected annually, that's how they get mine.

I'm not going to put that thing on my truck. I have a work truck so mine only move when its play time. I drive my truck way harder now then ever, because I miss the power. Really thinking about putting a tuner on the work truck. Fords trans hold up ok right.....:D They are talking about putting tattlers on our new trucks. I think I'll keep my old one. I have them convinced fords only get 12mpg hwy.

Through progressive your rate can't go down so what do it matter? I beat the snot out of y wife car and my truck and I still got an 11% discount and she got none because she commutes even though we have her primary use on ins. Set as pleasure like we do for mine. Weird she put 24000 miles on this year. They haven't said a word about it to us and our rate even went down more after we renewed our 6 months, not including the 11%
