Have you tried pulling the abs fuse? Mine was doing the same. Pulled that and can hold 35psi+ no problem now

I wonder if you need to bleed some air that could of gotten into the abs block need a techII to do that if it's not a converter issue.

you ever try the stainless braided brake lines I put those on and made a huge difference

It has them already.

I have never had better pedal until after an automated ABS bleed. Need a scan tool for this.

Caleb did it a few weeks ago. It didn't really help at the time. He did mention about doing panic stops on wet grass to bleed it. That's why I was doing it on gravel. I'll have him do it again next week.

It progressively got better as the night went on. First 2 passes were crappy, then all of a sudden I started hot lapping it & it wanted to hold. Left at 15 and cut a 1.74 on all terrains. Left at 20 & about 2400 rpm and it hopped too much and I let out. The brakes felt more firm on the way home. Super weird. Maybe it fixed itself? I really have no idea. It ran an 11.83 & 11.87 so I can't complain.

Just eliminate the ABS pump all together, pull the fuse, and put a piece of elec tape over the lights on cluster!

If you did that, wouldn't you have to plumb in an adjustable proportioning valve somewhere?

Chris, have you checked the front ABS wheel speed sensors? I guess over time they get corroded and start losing signal, then the ABS thinks you're locking up and you lose braking power. Mine does this at low speeds, like coming up to a red light.

Dan, Now that you mention it there was a code for a wheel speed sensor. One of the weird things that it does is when coming to a stop, it feels like the brakes release for a split second, then grab again and the trucks stops.
I'm just going to assume the wheel bearing is going bad as well. I've never replaced the drivers side and thought I heard it squeeking a bit the other day.

Thank you for bringing this up! I'll have it scanned again to determine which corner it is and hopefully that fixes it permanately.

The ABS speed sensors lose signal when dirty and/or bad. Causes ABS buzz or pedal fade right @ 5mph when slowing to a stop. Worst case scenario, it could be the entire wheel bearing unit.

If the hub bearing itself isn't bad or loose you can just clean the sensor mounting surface on the back of the hub. What happens is the corrosion build up pushes the sensor away front the reluctor wheel inside and causes unwanted abs activation at low speed stops. There was a bulletin/campaign for it back in the day lol

Ive had wheel sensor codes for a long time and at the same time, the brakes have been soft. I'll have to add that to my list of to-dos for the truck. Thanks for the info.

I've had rear wheel speed sensor codes for a few months now c0055, or c055 whichever one and last time I was at the track I experienced the brake pedal squeel and it couldn't hold the truck back past 10 psi. As far as I can tell, I haven't experienced the slow speed abs activation tho. I couldn't even find rear wheel speed sensors... unless they are integrated into the abs module.

I'm going to pull my abs sensors and clean them up to see if anything changes. My abs also seems to work just fine if I mash the brakes.

I will check it out. I know the bushing for the slip yoke is toast. There is oil slung all over the bottom of my truck. I need to just snag a new rear case for the T-case with the new bushing already installed. I'll bet the worn bushing is causing my abs code. I'm wondering if the abs code has to do with my 1st gear lag issues I've been dealing with since the day after I put my dual fuelers on... hmmmmm

If there is any abnormal slop in the slip yoke, would it affect the speed sensor in the tcase? If I clear the code, it comes back the second I start driving. I've never noticed anything abnormal with the truck since the abs code popped up and I can't confirm that the 1st gear lag issue is even related cause I have no clue when that abs code actually started happening. I'm 100% positive it is not a tuning issue because I tried my old 72vvt tunes and it still does it. The more you scale the maf back, the worse it is.

ABS will not activate until you are going at least ~5mph. GM specifically programmed it this way starting in 2003 or so, because people were complaining about rolling through stop signs when they had bad wheel speed sensors.

You guys have problems with the base brake system. Whether its mechanical, or hydraulic...its not ABS.

I really dont know how people have a problem telling/differentiating between an ABS issue and a hydraulic brake issue.
If ABS is activating, it really is unmistakable. At least to me... but maybe im more attuned to those things.

Its impossible for ABS to "make it so you cant hold your truck back" when doing a boosted launch. For one thing, its disabled under 5mph. And there is no traction control of any sort whatsoever on pre-09 trucks.

And its SOOO obvious when the pump is running!! If the pump motor isnt running, and the brake pedal isnt aggressively vibrating...then the ABS is doing nothing...nada...zip...

Put a scan tool on it if you dont believe me.

My rear t case bushing has been leaking oil since 2009. I should probably fix that...

is it a pulse or is the brake pedal just kicking back at you? the brake kicking back once indicates more of a hydroboost issue.

ive never known a bad wheel speed sensor is cause weak holding back of the truck like ben stated. most ive seen is them causing a pull when braking at 15-20mph and slower (not below the 5mph threash hold though). just cause you have a new hydroboost and pump doesnt mean they are working 100%. my pump is starting to whine on my truck and i noticed some decreased braking while pulling my trailer back home yesterday.
