Can you paint a drive shaft?

If coating every shaft cost GM $5 per shaft and they produce 1 million vehicles a year, that would cost them $5,000,000.00 annually.

When you're spending $70,000 on a truck, I am glad to hear that gm cut a $5 corner. lol
As a paying customer, I care more about GM's bottom line, than my own value per dollar. haha

If u buy the right alum. Shaft it won't fly out. Mine is bad ass billet ends and as big as a semi s shaft. Looks pretty sweet. Rated too 1600 ft of torque

I was referring to oem aluminum shafts. I know they make heavy duty aluminum ones for hight hp racing and sled pulling but I still don't think I would run one if I had the option to go steel.

We did some driveshafts at work for a guy taking his rig to sema (powder coating) and they didn't affect the balance or anything of it. Did the driveshafts in what we call texture black and the rest in a candy apple red color

It's a driveshaft. many halfshafts on cars are rusty, you just don't see them. Why they aren't painted/coated I dk. Our semis come painted but they cost more yet.

I wouldnt be as worried about an aftermarket one being out of aluminum, just more the price than anything. I think i know the shaft he's talking about and IIRC it was like $800. I got my 4" steel shaft built for just over $400. And they did paint it, and put stickers on it to caution that it spins.

I guess it didn't ever phase me. I am an asshole about looks and very anal, guess theres just bigger fish. I'm more pissed about other corners they cut. Honestly i have no interest in any American car other than the Duramax

Just curious as to why the aluminum shafts wont hold under the high hp trucks. Is the wall thickness on the tube thin or something? I know there obviously not as strong as steel but if aluminum's strong enough to build a jet with why not a drive shaft

They are. The steels break easuly too.

A little OT but.....At what HP level should you worry about the driveshaft? Or cross that bridge when you break it?
