Ive been shopping around for a side by side for months now, and finally found a good deal on a used 2012 commander 1000 limited. Its in great condition from the pics but im not sure on hrs/miles yet. Im going down tomorrow to look at it and maybe buy it if everything looks good.

Are there some things i should look at closely that are problematic? Im not afraid to do some R and R on minor things. its just the bid internal jobs im trying to avoid.. I know a lot of guys upgrade the tie rods right away..other then that its all new to me:)

thanks in advance:D

The main things I've heard is the torque reducers and clutch rob power from the commander like a mofo, so plan on getting a programmer (muzzy is what I prefer) and a clutch kit..

As far as used check the belt and that's about it, 39mph is max in low gear but you'll want to run low gear as much as possible to save your belt..

The ole if it ain't broke don't fix it, really rains true with sideXsides and their belts have an oem spare but read up on how to change it on the fly and so just that.. Wait for it to grenade then swap em..

Commanders are strong SxS.. Check the oil for any metal fragments and other routines checks.. Other than that you should be fine.. Good luck on the negotiating!!!!

Get a RZR instead, but for real, PM coker6303 for some good info on clutches and whatnot. Maybe he'll see this thread and drop in.

I work on these as a hobby! I make them fast, realizable, and whatever else you need!

On the commander, it's a solid platform. They can be a little but of a pain to work on but they are extremely comfortable to ride. Pulling the motors is a pita!!

Tie rods are definitely worth upgrading.

The biggest performance gain will be found in the clutching. I can set you up with a CVTech, QSC, or STM variation. Just depends on what you want to do with the rig or how much money you want to spend. Hands down, clutches are the best mod you can make to a Canam.

Use the maverick belt if you look for a replacement, last 3 digits are 212.

For fuel, I use the dobeck tuners. Simple and very effective. If you ride in the mountains much, you would love the gen 4 closed loop setup!!

Check out the site at pitprovenperformance.com.

I'm a wetsounds dealer too. Here's a set up on a maverick we built in 8 days. It will be featured in 3 upcoming magazines.

I forgot to take pics of the finished product from my phone. It had 2 10" subs, 6 8" full range, and 4 rev 10's on a 8" lift and 34" tires and a custom graphic wrap.

holy Sh!t! well looks like ill be getting it...itll see a lot of the colorado mountains this summer..as far as uses, itll see a lot of towing gear around..long trips at high altitudes..I climb 14ers in the rockies during the summer, so itll be used as a "basecamp" kind of setup.
I wont be jumping it or anything crazy..im sure some creek crossing and mud but nothing major. Lots of towing tho:D
If it looks like its not abused and fairly well kept...whats too many miles??

COKER set me up with my clutches... Sending the ECM in to MRRPM for tuning. Sport low with no cut-back and tune only? Sure! I ordered another ECM for mine too.... Hmmmm :)

Hit up Coker, he has his stuff together for sure...

What is the best upgrade for your buck on the rzr 900 xp ?

All depends. The polaris stock clutches are pretty good out of the box. If you went to a 29"+ tire you need to make send secondary adjustments to compensate for the load change.

I run a CVTech with STM secondary on my 900, extremely responsive! It's a 935 11.5:1 compression with stage 2 alba cams. Runs great! The motor work is definitely noticeable!

You can get some really good gains out of an exhaust and cams. The prostar motors have really proved to be power houses in their CC class!

The shocks on the 900 suck!! The rears especially. They have horrible rebound valving and the stock springs are pathetic. If you are a suspensionabusive rider, that's the first mod I would look to

As far as the hours I would divide the hours by months it's been owned to see how many thee guy averages a month.. My teryx is a baby, it's an 08 and I only have 72 total hours but My buddy who uses his on the dairy daily has about 1100 same year and all he has had to do is replace the belt and re valve
