i'm using alot power packs in my 5spd and i'm trying to get the clearance right for the c2's.

mike recommended that i only run 6 clutches in this pack to avoid tie ups since i dont have a wavy plate and to use stock steels to get the correct clearances

i just put it together with the 6 frictions and 6 stock steels and it still not thick enough.

the current clearance is .210"

when spec is .070” to .085”.

how do i fix this?? do i stack extra steels on the top of the pack?? thats the only logical answer i can see.

You better tell them how to measure clearance with a wave plate Tonto or they will destroy the C2 and C3 and possibly the planet and hub.
How many of these Alli's have you built? I ask because you have made yourself an expert lately.

I won't sell a wave plate. Making a wave plate is custom to the drum. Horsepower and tuning also dictates the wave in the plate, if I use it at all. Sometimes I don't use the Transgo and no I don't use copilots at all.

Don't the wave plates tend to flatten out over time as well?

mike you suggested i space it with the stock steels since i cant properly set up a wave plate. so how do i do that?

dont the sc3/ sc4 kits come with a wave plate when you order it and install it yourself? or is there only a wave plate when its installed by a builder like yourself.

Since we're on the subject of wave plates, what exactly do they do? When would you want to use one, and when would you not?

my understanding is if you are to use the 8 frictions in the c2 it can cause a tie up because it comes on too quickly.

the wave plate slows the oncoming c2 clutches just enough to prevent the tie up.

i could be completely wrong here just stating how i understand it so please correct me if i'm way off.

If you knew what you were talking about you would not ask the question. It's obviouse you called steve sr and he gave you the question to put to me.
You can tell your daddy this; depending on metal content of the steel plate, it will flatten accordingly. I use a certain brand steel plate which is predictable and I know how much it will flatten. I then base my clearance on the final flattening. Any sled pull wins with your truck lately that we should know about? :D

8 frictions don't come on any quicker than 6 frictions. Your engineering backround should have taught you that. 5 and 6 speed Alli's have different problems and they should not be built the same way if you want them to live under big hp.
The wave plate is installed because of the friction coefficient of the clutches and not there to slow anything down. Different fluids have a lot to do with it. Make sure you pick the correct fluid for the friction and purpose. Fueling will have a lot to do with how the Alli shifts and the fluid needed. If the C3 squaks on the 3/4 upshift you have put a black mark on the C3 on release. Use the wrong fluid and fueling is wrong, you will have a tie up. Tie up with big hp =carnage. Be carefull.
No I will not teach you how to do this.

How does the clutch come on any faster with 8 frictions that it does with the stock clutches?

how does suncoast include them in the sc4 kits that are sent out to the diy home builder then?

I think what mike is saying is to not use a wave plate in a 6 speed. With his experience I would do what he recommends.

Well good luck hopefully I helped, when I build my 2001 the builder specifically added a wave plate to the SC III when he sent it to me.
