Any suggestions where I can get a C1 return spring compressor? The C1/C2 drum is the about only thing that's not apart, and I'd feel better taking it apart to clean everything. Problem is you need to compress the C1 return spring assy to get it out, and it needs to come out to get anything else out.

I also figured out why I couldn't get the P3 off the Extension housing. Finally noticed the nut on the shaft . Of course the ATSG manual doesn't have the dissasembly for the 4wd trans, or the torque spec for that nut. Anyone know if one of the 4wd nut sockets will work on it? IIRC, some of the local places have 4 prong 4wd nut sockets.

i made my own compresser out of 4" exhaust tubing with some notches for the ring plyers to go into, and a shop press, and the output shaft nut you can get the socket at checker to my suprise , why are you removing the output shaft i have never removed except when i change the extension housing , i usually just flush the extension housing assembled.

I'll look into see what I can find to make a C1 compressor... Now that I've looked a little closer at the extension housing, and looked at the Mitchell rebuld guide, I don't think I'll get the nut off without it on the case and the parking prawl engaged, so I'll leave it alone and clean it as is.

If I remember what I did with the Stop Sign I'll mail it out to you.

;)

it will save you some work to just flush it , you can build a compressor by getting a peice of 4" exhaust tubing cut notches out on each side so it leaves you with a u shaped piece , then a foot or so of all thread and some flat plates to compress the spring cage . or a press like i used . i have gotten it dissasembled and re-assembled with out a tool but it takes forever takes less time to build a compresser . and if you ever have to you can get that nut loose with the extension housing off of the trans, you can with a impact wrench and just hold the planet .

The 4" exhaust and shop press will be much easier tan making that. If you dont have a press get creative, the first trans I did we used a 6ft 2x4 and two of my buddies sat on the board and it compressed the cage enough to remove the spring:D

Dont get me wrong Tony's piece is awsome but when your in a bind you just have to get creative

Heres some pics of my contraption. I cut the one big notch to get the snap ring pliers in and the small notch to get my finger in there to hold the snap ring when you go back together. Hope it helps someone.

I actually made it out of my long bed extension tube for long beds that came with my MBRP exhaust:D

ill have to get pics of mine but its similar to the others. A piece of notched 4" exhaust with a plate across the top, then I built a stand with a lever, off of the lever I added a vertical section of pipe, i then bolted this all to my table. What you do is put a cheater pipe on the lever and have a buddy old it down compressed while you remove the snap ring.

I did by some eye hooks and chain so it can be held compressed if you dont have friends.

ill get pics when I get home if i rememebr

Kind of funny this thread pops up now. I am going to build a compressing fixture this week.
