What I did was get a 4" and 5" PVC coupler, a 5/16" threaded rod, some angle iron, two washers and nuts and used that to compress the C1 and C2 return springs... I'll have to post some pics of my redneck engineering

no, you have to buy/build someway to compress it. I built mine so you dont need a press.

You wont be able to compress that thing

dmaxlover hopefully ill get a pic or two of mine up tomorrow, not sure though, little busy pulling the motor out.

Can you do this without a press or custom tool?

i have done it with out a press or tool and it is very difficult and frustraiting , just used a pick set and small flat head to dig the snap ring out and reinstalled while holding down on the cage with a 2 big flat blade ( full body weight on it/them )and working in a cirlce , the return springs are fu#$ing tight . it took longer to do it then building a tool ( took a couple hours) , not to mention frustration and broken knuckles .next time i did a trans i made the tool .

IIRC, Guy wrote a CNC program for it.

I think I have it it in my garage somewhere...........

Last time I used it was years ago.

;)

I write enough G-code during the week!:) Thats the last thing I needed while working on my trans LOL. I use Surf Cam and or Edge Cam, both can really test my patience:rofl:

well as always I wait a month to hold my promise but here is a pic of my spring cage compressor and my bench stand. And you can see my tool for seating the mainshaft as well.

If people didn't know these were to rebuild a transmission the tub of vaseline in the background might raise a few questions..

My Trans instructor in Tech school used to tell us about the strange looks he would get from people when he would get to the check-out at the grocery store with 10 of the mega sized tubs of Vaseline.

:cop:
