Ok so i have a line on picking up some used crower rods for what i concider a good price and no i aint tell you guys where im gettin them :D (ecc 33 you best not tell them either ). But anyhow, is there much i should be concerned about or should have checked? im calling the fellow tomorrow to talk about them and buy them if i feel comfortable hes legit. i was told they are still true round at both the crank end and the wrist pin end and straight. Anything else i should ask about or have checked?

kinda excited, this is the first purchase for the motor build :woott:

any machine shop will be able to check them out to make sure they are still up to spec. also account for the cost to rebush them.

seems if they are straight it shouldnt be a problem, but the only thing is you dont know how hard they've been used....i'd say go for it. i'd imagine you're saving some serious coin with getting the used ones.

I saw those rods a week ago and thought about it for about a minute then said to myself with the money your putting into the motor are you really going take any chances with used parts. I'm sure they are fine and can be checked but I couldn't justify buying them they are cheap but not that cheap (if they are the same ones on DP) I don't need that in the back of my mind when the motor is done. That and the fact that enough people have burned me selling used parts that are ''Good" and then weasel out when they check out otherwise.

true but at the same time, do you plan to use your stock crank? are you gunna use your stock pistons? if your stock stuff checks out good and you reuse it, whos to say you dont break a crank first start up (even though its not likely)? If i have the rods magnifluxed, checked for straightness and roundness, what would constitute not using them if all that checked out? it would be the same process you did for your crank. My thing is, after hearing what abuse Pats rods have been through (and literally through a block), it wouldnt nessacarliy be a bad buy IF all checked out good.

BTW, Mark (eganracing) was PMing me last night about the rods. hes willing to sell me the rods he bought for what he paid for them being that he would be sitting on them for quite a while before ever using them. Im gunna call wade today and talk about them a bit with him first though and go from there.

I hear ya but for the price on dp by the time you got them checked out your in the neighborhood of a brand new set of carrillos. Rods are the reason i'm tearing the motor apart its not because im worried about my crank and pistons if they fail they fail I didnt just pay 2k or more for them. I'm sure the rods in question will be fine but I would never get it out of my head even after they checked out just because im a wierdo like that.

what is the reason he's selling the rods? i cant seem to come up with a reason someone would switch rods if the ones being used are perfectly fine...
