what is the reason he's selling the rods? i cant seem to come up with a reason someone would switch rods if the ones being used are perfectly fine...

He's going with a stroker crank

Nicks got it. I call and talked with Wade this mornin. He had a total of 6 passes on the rods, had all the rods fully checked out before selling, and told me he even planed to reuse his bearing that came out of the rods for the new ones. He is going with a fully interally balanced stroker crank in the new motor for a new pull season. Now granted this is his word but im willing to take the risk for the price i got.

I can attest to the durability of Crowers. I've run them at high HP, then removed them and remeasured them, and they stay stable. I stuck one through a block and it barely deformed. However, I've read internet rumors that there have been failures.

Rods are no different than any reused part you put into an engine. You should check the components before assy.

The minimum checks you could do at home:

Put a new wristpin in the small end. Should move free, and you shouldn't feel any rock (tilt).

Torque the rod (with bearing) onto a crank journal. Use assy lube. It can be a little tight at first, then it should get loose by working it in. Pull off cap. Put a piece of plasti-gage on the bottom of the cap and retighten (don't rotate), then pull cap off and check plasti-gage.

Assemble rotating assy and check piston protrusion. My Crowers are 0.004" longer than stock, but I also cut 0.010" off the tops of my pistons.

If everything checks out, you should be good. You should do this even with new parts as insurance.

I mentioned Wade Moody simply because he has sold "hurt" used parts here before.

I am running a used set of crowers in my motor, haven't got to drive it much because of the oil pressure issue we had but I had them checked and they were fine. They came out of ed's (eds04max) truck, and I got a good deal for them

Not that we aren't busy at work, but I have measuring laboratory with CMM equipment. I would charge $128 (+ shipping) to check: eye-to-eye, big and small dia, big and small roundness, tilt and twist on a set of 8 rods. To have this done, you need to clean the rods (just WD40 and a rag is fine), and torque the cap (no rod bearings) to the mfr spec, protect well, and ship to us. If somebody runs into a situation where they need accurate readings, PM me.

This is overkill for most apps, but just thought I'd throw it out there just in case.

Partial sidebar, we also do reverse engineering on parts. ie - If you have a part you need a blueprint for, we can create 2D blueprints or 3D models. Again, just informational, since not everyone knows there are labs such as ours that specialize in measuring stuff.

I wish I could put some miles on my build before this kit from Trent gets here but it looks like the motor won't get any break in miles before it does

Wish I had known that before I sent off one of my LB7 injector cups elsewhere.

Thanks for the FYI.:thumb:
