Im guessing a lml converter with a transgo junior would hold 450 pretty reliably. If I wanted a 150 tune on the tow truck just for goofin off if i was ever drivin it without the trailer?
mine lasted a little over a year at that power level, transgo jr and upgraded converter before I could feel the slipping and bad shifts start. was a little rough on it at times but nothing too crazy

Just gonna leave it on heavy tow tune and drive it then.

Looks like it. Doesn't RevMax build a single disk for a decent price?
Looks like its a little over $700. Vs the new LML converter for $480. Does anyone have any input here? If they are comparable ill go LML, if the revmax is significantly superior to the LML id rather pay the extra..

$600 for the transtar from All-Season/DHD. So it's right in the middle price wise but I think it's refurbished, which I'm fine with but still don't know which one is best bang for my money..
that would be the one i go with. make sure you hot flush really well before putting it in.

Just took out a newer transtar 3 disk "towing converter" from a lb7 dually that couldn't get out of its own way and would heat up the fluid to 230 in less than 5 miles of flat towing. Straight Junk IMHO. I'd put in one of Phil's single disks before ever recommending Transtar.

huh, no issues out here with the converters and trans parts a couple of shops i know that use them. if they ever go triple disk, they go with dave or suncoast though. strictly stock rebuild stuff.

I have tried to search what a hot flush is. Is it the same as the "hoot" method?
no. they are not the same and the hoot method is not suitable for the Allison when dealing with contamination

the hot flush uses a dedicated machine that forces fluid back and forth through the lines while providing heat needed to open up the channels and ports as well as help loosen debris. all Allison shops should have one. if not go elsewhere

Phil @ DPC converters.

IMO a transtar/OEM LML is a good bang for the buck assuming that's all that's wrong with it. I think you'd be doing yourself one heck of a disservice if you didn't open it up and check things out while it's apart to find the root cause. It would suck to buy a $700 converter to just kill it again in short order because you didn't want to spend ~$50 in gaskets for some investigation.

hot flushes are becoming more common in transmission shops. it heats the oil to a desired temp, then forces fluid through the lines i think around 100PSI, then at certain timed intervals, it hammers fluid in the reverse direction for a split second and then goes back to flow. that knocks shit out of the fins and caught areas while the hot fluid expands everything like jason said.

it does one hell of a job of cleaning things up.

if you cant find one, pull the lower trans line to the radiator and post a pic up of what it looks like inside the radiator. might be better off just buying a new rad. Then drop your trans pan and pull the internal filter, split it and open up the media. then put a pic of that up. we can see how much trash has gone through the trans then.
