so the plan for now is going to be accumulate parts a little at a time starting with pistons cam and crank so i can take my time and do as much work myself as possible and balance everything externally.

i do not want a 'low compression' motor so i just want to de-lip lb7 pistons which will also make the cc process a little easier since i can do it on the bench.

is there any reason i could not run 'a' head gaskets? i want to keep my compression as high as possible since this will still be a daily driver and not a max effort build

i'm around 16 to 1 at 0 deck height and running c head gaskets.I'm cut and delipped and coated.

You wont know if you can run an "A" gasket untill you do a protrusion test . I put "C" gaskets on my GMC when i did the motor and It really doesnt make much difference , I cant even tell, I doubt it even accounts for a 1/4 point drop .

hmmmm... just found the gasket thickness specs... looks like its not even worth the hassle of measuring to see if i can put a's in. just do the c's and be done with it for the sake of ease.

bump..... building a second motor.

got a fully dressed 64k lbz motor coming my way :D

so far have lb7 delipped pistons and head studs

not going to be running dual fuelers

and so far i am leaning towards sticking with lbz rods unless i can find a deal on some used rods...... and no duramaxtuner rods will not cut it.... lol i would rather bend a stocker than snap an aftermarket.
