You should be able to buy a dmax/alli combo ALL DAY long for $5k. Less for just the dmax.

I'm not necessarily trying to move you away from the carb'd gasser, just saying my opinion on the other options. ;)

A tune-only, stock motor dmax will go fast in a light s-10! And a conservative trans build should last a while too at the light weight & moderate power level.

Just my $0.02.

Tony I think powerhouse still makes the 383 kit. It's very reasonable, around 600 bucks and some options available. Hell I've seen people give away stock 350 blocks. Machine work wouldn't b too pricey. They sell knock off super victor intakes on eBay as well as header and motor mount kits on there for like 200. If u can find a speed shop near u that sells carbs, roller rockers, distributors, misc items used u can save a bunch. Trust me when I built my vega I had no money at all, the demon carb is used from a speed shop, stocker hei dist, afco radiator was only like 200 bucks, junkyard electric fans, and it used to have modded vortec heads. If u r ever in stl hit me up and u can get some ideas from the vega. It's super budget and will go 11's all day long.

Yeah, thinking some more... Dmax isn't gonna be budget friendly unless the budge is well funded. :D. Simply because the cost of it on top of everything else to be track-ready is not gonna be cheap. I'd imagine $10k could get you from roller to dmax powered s10 ready to hit the strip?

This is fun day dreaming. :D

Get a 93-95 body style RX7 and drop a LS1 in it. Had a buddy a while back that did it and then turned it in to a business. Now he's a millionaire.
www.hinsonsupercars.com is teh nastyness:woott:

Edit: I realize they didn't quit making that body style in 95 but I figured those few years would make for a fairly cheap rolling chassis...

Thanks for all the advice boys. I'm only sticking to gas as parts is more plentiful and WAY less insane parts markup.

Where can you find an LS for under 1k complete?

I do really like the 383 idea a lot and I know 350s are dirt cheap just gotta decide 350 or 400 block and try to find a good bottom end cause even the nicer budget rotating assemblies can be had for around $800-$900

Also gotta figure out how big of a shot I'm gonna throw at it

Dont b afraid to use a 2 bolt 350 or 400, u could have it splayed if u wanted it really stout. My 2 bolt 355 sees 7k rpm's almost every weekend. I always wanted to build a thick wall 283, bore it .125 over and put a hogged out set of 96-00 vortec heads on it, mill them down to about 62cc and throw a ridiculous roller cam in it. With a 3" stroke this thing would spin like +-8500 rpm's and would scream in a little car or s10 with a 4500 converter. Maybe not street friendly but a strip terror. I love high revving mouse motors.

That's awesome some of the options Henry and I talks about were a 355 or a 406. I'm trying to get ahold of a 2 bolt main 400 block or complete doesn't matter. My motto is pin in to win it and hopefully this little S-10 will scream. The stoutness of the motor isn't a huge worry as it's ONLY going to see the track and will never again see a street mile. I'd love to do a 9" rear, rubbed on fat slicks, caged, four link'd and back halved, wheelie bars and in need of a chute lol but all that may be outta my price range at the moment

Here's some pics of my vega. I never get to talk gassers with anyone so this thread has been fun.

It's nothing special but it works. Alot of secondhand parts and hard work.

Damn that ls motor looks like it came in that truck! Nice. My buddy is building a s10 blazer that I traded him. Small block, glass front end, drop spindles, ford explorer 8.8 rear, it should run decent for what he has in it.

Not much, I think he got the glass fenders and bumper for like 150 used, a small cowl hood new, bought a .040 over 350 short block for like 200. Got the rear from a junk yard for 150. I will ask him tomorrow what year it's from. The only bad thing is the bolt pattern is ferd. I actually bought the blazer for 500 bucks with a blown up 350. Then traded him 4k and the blazer for my vega back. So collectively we only have about 1k or more in the blazer. Prob b a 12 second ride for about 4k when done. It had a built 350th in it so got lucky there.

I havent read this whole thread so soebody might have already suggested this but you cant go wrong with a 327. Theyre damn near bulletproof and love nos, had a friend with one in his 69 elcamino and ran 10's on spray.
