It has a port that needs to have boost pressure to it. I'm sure it pushes the valve closed.

They are not for controlling boost pressure maximums. They are to prevent surge, aka bark.
I looked at this one on turbo smart and it looks like it would be a pain to install. Does anyone have any experience with this kit? It has a controller as well.
is this the turbo smart ones? because the operation of those ones are real simple spring on the valve opens it and boost pressure keeps it closed using a solenoid the controller just energizes the solenoid to dump boost pressure so the valve will open.The boost goes into a contoller first that controls pressure on the blow. When you let off throttle it reuses pressure keeping the blow off closed and allows it to open and bleed off pressure. Usually they have around 15 lbs more pressure than your total boost. Then the contoller allows boost to over take the 15 lbs spring and then it opens.
