I just bought an 04 LB7 that was sunk underwater in a lake. The engine only had 3000 km's on it. I picked it up for $1000. Now time to tear it down and make myself a race engine at my own pace.

Hopefully it isn't rusted too badly. The tear down will tell the tale.

Good Luck!!

If cylinders are rusted then bore them over, If crank is bad then new crank hell maybe just go a stroker. Heads toast then an aftermarket set of heads. I can't see where this is too bad of a thing.

Exactly sounds like a decent deal but I wouldnt use the electronics. I would always at least try to remove the oil pan and look around to see the cylinder walls and other things on a fully submerged engine. Sounds like your on your way at least.

Heads them self should be okay because they are aluminum. The valvetrain on the other hand?

Seems like too much money for a sunk engine but what do I know

And what do you think an un-sunk 04 LB7 with little to no mile would go for like $4k or $5k?? So when I replace things that would have otherwise been fine I get upgraded parts. Seems like a good deal to me.

The fact that it has been sunk probably makes the mileage of no importance because it probably needs a full rebuild

and your doing that reguardless.

funny you guy didnt give simon alot of grief over his block that was coated in sandy oil...

so what the grip now? adam got a ~new motor for next to nothing? so it took a bath big deal..
i would take that over a block the split a piston in it if i did it again.

all the electrionince have water resitint/proof quick connects most likely they are still good... INJ migh be trash... wouldnt hurt to get them tested

BTW nice steal adam

X2!

Get it apart, and clean it up. Should be fine as long as it's not still full of water.

Good luck with the build.

I personally would rahter have one that has been under a hood for 300k than under water at all. That's my preference, not going to knock you for your choice to give it a shot. Let us know if we can help.

It was only underwater long enough to get a piece of equipment to get it out so 2 days. After it was brought out glow plugs were pulled to get water out of the cylinders and all the fluids were drained.
