Ever since stepping into the billet wheel world of turbos, i have been intrigued. Previously I was on the hunt for the perfect turbo for me and after several variations ranging from 72mm up to 80mm, billet and cast, I ended up back with a billet 11 blade 72 and love it. I was wanting a 6 blade wheel but couldn't find one.

I didn't get a chance to compare the cast 7 blade 72 wheel to the billet 11 blade wheel. All I can say is that the billet 11 blade 72 spools insanely faster than the billet 7 blade 80 wheel did (which is a given).

I am curious if anyone has the info on weight comparison vs blade count. I can't help but imagine the 11 blade wheels have to be the heaviest therefor spooling the slowest.

Does anyone have weight comparisons between 6, 7, 8 and 11 blade wheels, preferably billet.

the 11 blade stuff is low pressure, that have more blades to grab air to make boost faster but do not make the power 6 or 7 blade wheels do. these has been dyno tested and confirmed, not just my opinion.

as far as your question no we have never weighed the same wheels with different blade counts.

Idealy I was trying to find a 6 blade 72 wheel but couldnt. Only thing I could find was the 11 blade wheel in stock.

I am now running compounds so maybe switching the 11 blade wheel for a 6 blade wheel won't make any difference since it is being fed by another charger.

once you get it on the dyno, the graph should give you an idea of what a wheel change might give you

I always ASSumed this was like fans or boat propellers... the most all-out efficient is a single blade but the best out of the hole and balance is with multiblades. It makes sense that less blades would give more total boost but laggy as hell comparatively.

6&7 blade wheels sound better.

After having both a 11 and a 6 I personally think they both have there ups and downs. The 11 blade seems to spool faster but the 6 blade comes on harder midrange. I am sure brands of wheels have a lot to do with it. I have learned that its the exhaust side that really makes the difference. Going from a 83 to a 87 made a HUGE differance

I am changing to a stock 78/110mm lighter than a cast 75/100mm

I am running the billet one now (IHI/S475) but didn't notice any difference from the stock cast. I will be selling the billet one soon.

That is interesting. I'm betting the reason you didn't notice a difference is because the 75 is the primary. If you were running it as a single or as the secondary in a twin setup, I'm sure youd notice a difference. How much are you looking to get for the wheel? I may take it off your hands and make my 72 into the 75.

I think you are right about being in a compound setup. My truck is stock fuel also. Pushing more fuel might see different results as I am maxed on air as it is.

Can't say I noticed a lot of difference between the stock cast and 6 blade billet wheel in my s475 over stock. Spooled a little better and did pull better on the top end but not enough to impress.

I would like to see some weight differences between the 11 blade and 6 blade billets. My rock truck (12.7 Detroit turned to 550 hp) has a s475 96mm 1.32 turbo with an 11 blade billet and it hits lighting fast and seems to pull good all the way to the top. It sure is quiet. At 40+ lbs of boost it is quiet as can be. Eventually I will swap a stock wheel and 6 blade billet for some testing.

It's going to depend on the manufacturer if the wheels as well. Some have larger hubs, thicker back walls, thicker blades, etc...

We only use the genuine Borg FMW line. If I remember tomorrow I can get a weight on the 80mm options (cast, 7 blade fmw, 8 blade fmw). Could also check the 67.7 (cast 7, cast 10, fmw 7)
