Best wheel and tire combo

I'm running DC FCII's on stock wheels and the best 60 I can cut is a 1.8 with um aired down to 30. That isn't surprising being the tires is pretty aggressive and hard. My front end is dropped where my cvs are negative and I have track bars. So I have narrowed it down to my tires. With a 1.8 the truck will go 12.47 at 108 and I think if I could cut a 1.6 60 I could be 12.3's. So what would be the best setup? Would I be better off staying on stock wheels and run a set of toyo proxeys or could I get away with a set of 18 or 20's? I'm not terribly worried about weight because I didn't get crazy in dropping weight, but some of those aftermarket wheels are pretty heavy. A lot of guys run a bigger wheel and still have impressive trap times though. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Your best setup would be pyo's and proxes. Or you could get the wheels and tires you like for daily driving and get a set of drag radials for the track on your pyo's. I cut 1.61 with the DR's. on pyo's.

I thought about radials but like the idea of a street tire. If I just bought 60 overs and up-pipes manifolds I would be 12.2 maybe 12.1 but I wanna see how fast I can get it on stock injectors. I just need that 1.6 60.

I run 285/50r20's nitto 420S on my factory 20" LML wheels. I was at the track the other day and cut a 1.65 60' leaving at only 8psi with 40psi in each tire.

I just bought a set of drag radials for my pyos. They'll weigh 46-47lbs and most 20" and 285 420s weigh in around 70-75lbs. But remember every pound on the rotation of the tire/wheel is like adding 5-7lbs to the truck. So do the math. And 265 e rated tires mounted on pyos usually weigh 65-70lbs. If you wanna go street tire 420s are awesome just have to buy a 20" wheels. Lightest 20" wheel I've came across is the falken wheels. 26lbs compared to the usuall 32lbs+ which most 20s weigh. I'm cutting the same 60s and 1/4 ET as you Micheal and hopefully looking for 12.1-12.2 with radials along with some weight reduction.

Have you weighed one of your wheel/tires together to see what they weigh? Kinda curious

You can get the 420's in a 18 if I am not mistaken. This is one of the hardest parts of the setup because the build was suppose to be a do it all street truck. So I'm still on the search for a light oversized wheel and the nittos will be the choice of tire. I'm just gonna bite the bullet and do it once I find a wheel. Just have to see what happens.

You can get um in 17's also. The sizes in 17 and essentially equivelant to a 265/75r16 which I'm running now. I'm ditching the cognito braces for DHD. Have to see what she does then.

Dumb question, but...which proxes? Local tire shop said there was nothing available for my truck

Did they say that because they couldn't find a size to fit your wheel or because they believe you can't run a D rated tire on an HD truck... I got that bullshit speech from discount tire, I said sell them to me or I will go somewhere else.

I believe if you go to the drag racing section on the duramax forum there is a link posted to the toyos. That is how I found um.

I have the st2s plaza wouldnt order them cuz I have an hd. I ordered them through my buddys shopband had them put on there. Plaza couldnt find the 285 60 17s. Good thing my buddy that works in that shop ordered the same tires a few months back so he knew where to get them. Plaza said they couldnt order 4 plys for a 2500 I said every rednecks trailer in the world has 4 old worn out car tires with not to many issues. Thats hauling the trailer and a car or truck on top of that!
