I developed a twin fan cooler that replaced the factory one. Got too much shit from the DP idiots and shit canned the whole project. I pretty much told everyone to FO.

thats sad and funny at the same time

I'm still looking for some side work as a product tester:D 172000 miles in 25 months on the truck thats some serious real world testing available.

I was looking at adding a fan to the cooler. going to have it up on a hoist pretty soon, do some investigating while its in the air.

its a great idea but it would be good to be able to bypass this in the winter, dont want to make the diesel thicker than it already is.

thats one reason on an aux tank reroute I was thinking of t'ing and valves so you could return to stock. would be easy enough to control with fans too put a switch on it or something.

Wish that wouldnt have been th e case :(

Thanks Mike... this will be on the list of things to do with LMM TCase brace and input shaft as soon as Im down to see you!

I also need to get with you as I know you know Setrab stuff well - I need some oil and radiator cooling for my R1 powered Yamaha Rhino :D

well i tossed a remote temp sensor in the bed to watch air temp in the bed with the tonneau cover compared to outside air temp.

hitting the road at 5pm and driving west the air temp in the bed stayed about 10 deg warmer than outside air temp. it stayed that way for about an hour until the battery in the temp sensor died.

the next day I noticed that water I had in the bed for the meth injection seemed plenty warm.

going to put fresh batteries in the temp sensor and try the test again. but i think the reroute to the aux tank wont be any help with the fuel temps.

was watching the fuel temp in the truck yesterday.

started around 128 & as the tank level went down & the trip went on, the temp slowly climbed to 138. outside air temp was mid 80's.

Where is the factory fuel temp sensor?

Does it directly replace the factory one? How much$?

Fuel temp sensor is located on the DS head it is close to the turbo
If you look at where your fuel lines connect its very close to that
( atleast on a lb7 )

As far as I know about mikes cooler it will be plug and play with the old cooler.

I am thinking about adding a fuel temp gauge so I can watch it. (http://www.merchant-automotive.com/fuelpressuregaugeadapter.aspx) thinking about something like this, screws into bleeder port. Looks like a fitting I could get from the hardware store too.

Mike, I remember when you were doing testing with a guy I think was loslobos or something. Lots of good tech came from the testing. Would you consider sharing some of the results from your cooler now that the idiots are not around?

First trip with a fuel temp gauge. I think the sensor might be showing some underhood temp. Sitting in traffic fuel temp would climb 20-30 degrees quick.
Ran the factory tank down to just below half, topped off with the bed tank, fuel temp dropped 4-5 degrees.
Got to memphis and wrapped the sensor with insulation. FueL temps running 10-15 lower so far.
600 miles to home, I'm going to run the factory tank until the MI line and see if the temps change when I top off

I find this very intersting.

Mike did you happen to do any dyno tests for performance increases/drops based on fuel temp?

Also with the fuel heater thats in the Fuel Filter Housing, does that shut off or turn when the trucks read a certain temp?

Never got around to dyno tests as there was no time. I can tell you the factory cooler is not very efficient and restrictive. Infra red showed no significant drop in temps with factory cooler but we did see a big drop after hot fuel mixed with cool fuel in tank. The lower your fuel level the hotter your fuel temp. Cooler fuel temps wiil increase mileage and power. When fuel temps approach 200F, ECM pulls back power. 200F is not hard to achieve with duall fuelers.
