I am new here, nice read for sure. Has anyone experimented with the 7.1L rotating assembly? Is So cal the only distributor of this? Are the gains worth the costs pertaining to a stout DD:thumb:

7.1L is overkill for a DD. Awesome setup but for 800ho it’s way overkill.

I have been thinking about CP/Carrillo Hybrids setup, but also the fact that here isn't a lot of options for cast pistons.

I love my CP-Carrillo hybrid rotating assy. Builds torque like crazy, helps the crank live by pulling 4lb out of the rotating assy, and spools a turbo insanely well (partially due to cam and big fuel).

id like to see the Diamond forged pistons in a DD engine. they have a steel ring land in them.

Forged will be noisy till warm up though as their piston to wall clearance has to be pretty large to accommodate for growth.

IIRC my CP-Carrillo forged pistons only called for ~0.008 PTW and are not noisy when cold.

Well, after making 770HP on Marks Dyno, I guess its time to start pulling parts together for a new engine to install this coming winter. Current plan is to reuse my current heads, headstuds, and fuel system. If the current engine hasn't blown up by then, I will have a spare short block for something else.

My current build plan is

SoCal Budget Rods

Mahle Race cast pistons

Stock LB7 keyed Cam and Crank

LB7 Block with No Limit Billet Main Caps and ARP main studs

Stock head, maybe with some port work, valve springs, and pushrods

ATI/Socal Damper

ATS billet Flexplate

Looks like a solid build! Any reason to go with No Limit and ATS over SoCal? The No Limit main caps are great quality as well. I've never used an ATS billet flexplate but they appear to be more expensive. The ATS is $745 new whereas SoCal is $690 (unless you found one used).

The no limit caps came with my spare block and the ATS flex plate is the one on my truck currently for their 12 bolt converter, trying to save money and use parts I have laying around at the same time.

I would do the same, just wanted to ask is all haha.

Sounds like it'll be a good build. You'd be surprised how much a cam will wake it up.
