at what point does the stock LMM fuel pump need help?

07.5 LMM running a couple 500rwhp tunes. The MCR tune will drop 2000-2500 psi from desired fuel pressure between 26 mph and 80 mph. Below or above that it matches the 26107 desired fuel pressure. Some of the other tunes I've tried are much worse, but in the exact same mph range and with smaller commanded pulse numbers than the MCR tune. This is on a 1900-2000 rpm 4X launch from 0 to 100 mph.

So I started wondering at what point is the stock pump inadequate? Can it support this 500 rwhp tune or is it on the edge? If I need to help it out at this point do you do a shim kit, fuel rail inlet fitting, different regulator, pump, lift pump? My ultimate goal with the built trans would be to be in the 12's, this will never be a 10 or 11 second truck.

Get a lift pump! and never concern your self with it again:)

you're right, and I should know better. On my 03 Lightning all I was going to do was put it solidly in the mid-12's, but ended up with a 10 second truck. And all my other projects have gone the same way.

What's the best way to go as far as a lift pump, got any recommendations?

I think the PPE is a nice pump and the price is good,its apperently modified for the new USDL diesel

I myself have the kennedys and they have not let me down yet,they are quiet
but i dont think i would run them again

On my 01 I am useing a Fass,but i got it for cheap other wise i would of went PPE

One more thing to keep in mind with your Diesel is change the fuel filter often
when running performance race tunes

My Fass is over 2 years old and problem free ;)

May I ask why you wouldn't use the KD pumps again? I run TTS pumps (same pump just without the fancy billet head) and have been extremely happy. Just the other day I ran a tune that I've been working on for the past few months and with a pulse of 3000 uS it held 26k psi of rail pressure.

After running the pumps and duel fuellers they draw down to quickly for my likeing
i can hit zero before the 1/8 mile
with my setup I can change with valves where my fuel comes from and if i run off the fuel cell ( sliptank ) and a carter pump it maintains 6 psi

the carter pump compared to the kennedys are cheaper less reliable and noisier but do maintain LP pressure

Nothing against the KDs they do work good!

Chis is that a lift pump? :confused:

It's a spin-on fuel filter...I have it between the tank and my lift pump...Replacement filters are around $15...I ASSumed it would extend the service interval of the factory fuel filter, but who knows...I believe Diesel Pilot runs one as well...
