We are at the Rio, Ralph is watching the Ratlettes.

Took the CTS-V there, first time I got a chance to "play" with it. It was raining in places, and the automatic windshield wipers are uber-trick. They go faster or slower based on both speed and amount of rain. After the rain cleared, found a Turbo Carrera to play with. After a few jousts up to 140mph (it was kinda busy on the 15) it was obvious that he brought a knife to gunfight.

I'm getting more used to the car, and it loves the open road. It doesn't feel any different at 70 than 140, if anything it's more stable at speed. Seems the fuel economy is the nearly same at 90mph as 55mph, 21 vs 23. 90 feels like 65 so I drove most the way at 90.

Hope my luck holds out the rest of the trip. I drop a $20 in a slot waiting for Kat to get the room, and came out with $85. Since I took the casino's money, I will probably retire my lever-pulling arm and see if the Smithsonian wants to put it on display. :D I'm not much of a gambler.

Tomorrow we go to the Frank Hawley Drag School to get our NHRA comp licenses. After El Mirage, we are going to try and put Casper in the 9's, so we will need the license ahead of time just to be safe. The truck is already certified to 8.50, and I think we can generate the HP for a 9.99. HP has never been the problem though. Other things keep biting us in the arse but we just keep at it.

Good luck and have fun.

I also love the CTS-V's but the dealers here wont let me test drive one as I am not 25 yet. Kind of stupid if you ask me since I showed up in a +70k truck like I could see it more if I showed up in a 90's beater.

Have fun with the licensing. What kind of rides do you get to punish?

Kat and I are driving a Super Gas Firebird. I can barely climb into it, and my helmet hits the roof if I don't slouch down. Ran 4 passes each today, it was a 12 hour day both classroom and driving, and we just got back to the room. Both Kat and I did well, and ran full passes at about 5PM. Need two more full passes tomorrow each and we are good.

Line locks, transbrakes, and powerglides are alien to us, and the car a hood scoop so tall, that Kat couldn't see the tree. Can't see much out of it.

There are 15 people in the class, and only about 8 qualified for a full run by the end of the day. You have to run 200 ft, then 600 ft, then 1000 ft, and finally a full run. If you botch a run, you stay at that point. No accidents, only one close call for the students.

Car cuts about 1.2-1.3 sixties, and runs mid-9's naturally aspirated at high altitude. Frank said they run 8.90 at sea level in good conditions. It hazes the tires to about 200ft it seems. Biggest mistakes were over-correcting or not giving the cars full power.

At first I was pretty nervous, but by the 4th pass, I was comfortable.

Handles a bit different than a 4wd truck huh?

As far as the handling goes, the Super Gas car is superior. Not that a Dmax is bad handling, but the car is actually set up specifically for drag racing, and drag racing only, so if you launch straight, it stays straight the whole time.

If you have tons of HP in a Dmax, it will haze all four tires for distance, but since the steering wheels are spinning it does the FWD left drift and you should not correct it much, if at all. Let it drift until it hooks. Getting the front wheels pushing in a different direction from the back wheels is dangerous.

Cool, good luck today.

Did you have to do a blindfold test? I had to in the race truck, but was a piece of cake since I have driven one daily for the last five years.
