Anyone know of an app for a smart phone where you can remotely start your truck and turn it off?like if your away from your truck you could start it and let it idle then cut it off after it warms up

Yep the GM one lol it uses Onstar so not cheap.

I have yet to see one that you don't have a monthly bill. So it may cost you a lot. Just get a killer 2way aftermarket starter. That has the range you want.

theres no way you are going to get some kind of "app" for your phone that will let you remote start without a monthly bill of some sort.

Think about it. Its (the remote start signal) gotta go over the cell network, because bluetooth range is only about 30 feet. And then you gotta have something in the truck receive the cell phone signal/communicate over the cell network (whether its an aftermarket remote starter, onstar, whatever)...

you cant just send data over the cell network for free
...so any which way you slice it, theres going to be some sort of recurring fee for a device like that.

I have the smart start on my truck and i paid $30 a year to use it... It is nice though for those trips home in a friends truck and a warm truck when we get to my truck...:thumb:

This is available over here in europe, but only for an aux. heater, not actual car/truck remote start. Still cool, we installed one in a customers truck 2 years ago, we had to install a receiver part in the truck, that uses a regular sim card. (Not free, prepaid or some sort of plan required)
Now they even have an app for the system.

as mentioned the viper smart start is a pretty slick setup, works on iphone and Android os's...

Does not work if you park underground, or in an area with poor cell reception.

100-200 miles. If I'm out of town and my truck sits at the shop(my work) I dnt want the battery's getting low or just sitting for long periods of time. This way I can start it up once or twice a week and let it run for an hr or two while I'm gone.

Theres no reason to start your truck once or twice a week to "keep the batteries up" They can sit a lot longer than that without going dead
X2

If you are only going to be gone a week or two, it will be fine. If you'll be gone longer than that, either have a coworker start it (if they can be trusted) or get a float charger on it.

If you are set on getting a remote starter, I would get an alarm with the remote start built in. They are not much more money. If you are like me and think the sound part is useless (everyone ignores car alarms), then don't install the speaker. It will still send you a message if the alarm goes off, and you can use the remote start.

First off I'm in North Dakota where it's cold as shit so I could start the truck while I was in bed. Second I DO need to start it a couple times a week. I have a small drain on my batteries somewhere so about 4 or 5 days of sitting they go dead. Yea I know just fix it but I haven't had time

Fair enough. I have a remote start on my car and it's sweet. But while you are installing the remote start, fix that battery drain!
