Put new manifolds on my truck and have run into a clearance problem with my downpipe. wondering if the cops would have anything to say about a hoodstack. I believe it is illegal but am not sure.

I'm guessing it would depend on the cops in your area. Around here they don't like them in the bed, a friend borrowed my truck a couple of weeks ago and they stopped him for a modified exhaust:rolleyes:

Regardless of the state, IIRC it's a federal law that to operate on a public road the exhaust has to exit at least 18" behind the passenger compartment. Don't want exhaust flowing into the cab and making the driver pass out or something I guess.

I think most states now a days say you have to have a muffler on it so probably depends on how lenient your local law enforcement is about that and the fact that it's not behind the passenger compartment.

Yes it is illegal Kelly. The cops probably wouldn't hassle you though unless you got stopped or they noticed smoke coming from the front of the truck.:D

Might have to try it. truck is quiet because of the twins so i doubt i'll get pulled over because of noise. One more question. Would it be cool or way too redneck?

I would do it if my truck wasn't a daily driver. I don't care about the redneck thing...

I believe one of the best ways to do it is probably kind of like a hood pin... get the stainless or chromed pad riveted on the hood and cut the hole in the center of that. 4.xx" hole, a 6" pad? I dunno, just a thought I had. Not sure how guys make them look good. The stack would probably be just a 4" chromed straight cut that sticks about 4-6" out of the hood.

As for the noise thing, Ive got a 4" MBRP kit on my truck and I got a "stunting" ticket the other week because apparently when I stepped on it my truck was too loud and caught the attention of a cop. I think its BS. I've gotta go down to the courthouse and try and plead some sort of case. 402 bucks and 3 demerits.

I would try it kelly , i am hood stacking my truck also , if you find a way to do it clean post up , I will do the same with what ever i find out . I am worried about looks myself , but i am shaving a bunch of weight so it makes sence to ditch the exhaust wether it looks silly or not, I dont care .

Importkilla did it for about 6 mos on his 03 with the homemade twins and never got pulled over. He used it for his lawncare business at the time so it was on the road daily. I still don't suggest it for a daily driver, but he got away with it.

I have read that Haisley Machine sells a kit. 150 for the ring and bolts, 150 for the stack. 6in. They had to call though.
