Want to get some better mileage out of my 2003 2500HD 6.0 LQ4. Anyone have any pointers for me? Here is one for 7.5 and 8 if anyone with gasoline knowledge is interested in looking.

You have a wideband? Have you done the auto VE tuning? I did all the tuning in my turbo gasser a couple years back. Don't remember all of it, but depending on if you're running open (no O2 sensor feedback) vs. closed loop (using long term and short term fuel trims) vs semi-open loop (using short term fuel trims only), you can set it to use an AFR of about 15.5:1 on the lighter load cells.

6.0's will never get the mpg of 4.8's. I played with my Colorado a bit and never saw more than 1-2 mpg change if that.

The main upgrade for a 6L is to turn on "lean cruise". Your 04 should have an OS supported which allows you to turn this function on. The best bet is to do the VE tuning 1st, then dial in the lean cruise. This does require a WB to do. If you don't have a WB, I've done a hack lean cruise tunes on a couple 6L trucks and each one got +1 MPG. Basically, I just barely turned on the lean cruise and it seemed to help. The actual lean cruise tables usually have some pretty lean values in them. I've never felt comfortable using those values on engines that I didn't have some WB data on.

I don't personally tune the file for my LS2, but I could get you in contact with the guy who does!

He's got LS tuning dialed, currently his tuning is powering some of the fastest TrailBlazer SS's (boosted and N/A) silvy's, turbo silvy's and Vettes.

One of the TBSS owners local to me is currently the Fastest AWD All motor record holder in the TBSS community...and running tuning from this man

PM me for details
:)

I'm looking for pointers, not pay someone to tune it. And sounds like wideband auto ve is the ticket.

Any gasser tuner worth a shit is tuning via a wideband, EFI-L and HPT are the "ticket" and I was going to give you dudes contact, as he's typically pretty willing to help people out, not just sell a tune

But it sounds like you already got it figured out, so best of luck

Wondering how the blackbear guy is successful eithout wideband tuning?

He tuned my father's Tahoe in person and the tune ended up like shit. Break necking shifts, mileage went down, just a crappy tune all around. Ended up getting a reflash at the dealer..

Just my 2 cents on Blackbear performance.

Yeah im not going to pay to have a beater truck with 418k on the clock tuned haha. I have seen his 5.3 gas tunes and almost everything is turning torque management off changing shift times etc. Not much in the ways of advancing spark or anything

Cali..
Tuning a truck with 418k miles seems like playing with fire no?

Edit: sorry just saw your other posts looks like you're trying for better mpg...

The tadpole passed smog no problem. The guy about crapped his pants when he checked the mileage. Couldn't believe how clean it was.
