Help: Any Massachusetts Cops on the forum???

Not sure how old you are but I'm 54 , and I can tell you there is 1 thing that's universal from state to state . 95% of cops are *****s . TX included . They are like Barny Phief wanting to use their 1 bullet . They abuse their authority and interpret and twist the law to do what the F----they want to do. They are worse than car salesman and lawyers . Can you tell I hate cops . I too am a law abiding citizen , I don't even drink . I'm forever getting pulled over for the lamest stupidest shit you can imagine . I read your thread and got fired up . Guy could easily have cut you a break and explained the law to you . The majority of all them assholes are worthless pieces of Sh--. I feel all your pain Bro . Good luck with your situation .

Everyone hates a cop untill they need one. Personally, I've had some bad but mostly good expirences with law enforcement. I've learned typically they only come down hard on those being stupid and putting others at risk or if you legitimately are doing wrong. Dont perpetuate the retoric that the media spews forth, frankly I thought the people on this board were smarter than that...

When have you ever needed a cop? I have never needed one but I sure had one writing me a ticket that impacts my livelihood like he was doing me a favor. Meanwhile I know somewhere in the city somebody was getting raped, robbed or selling drugs.

You can go to Michigan DMV and get a paper temp plate which I believe is good for 30 days (might be longer). Ive done this several times in the past. Cost was minimal.

Jed, why didnt you just put the plate from your old truck on the new one until you were able to get to DMV?

As for the argument going on about opinions on police, some are out of control on a power trip, others are good people doing a good job.....just the same as every other occupation in this country.

Good cops are hard to find. The number of guys that I served with that are now cops is ridiculous. They had no calling to help people, it was just an easy job with the perks of being a dick and carrying a gun.

Doesnt really matter which state,province or country your in...There arnt any un corrupt cops that dont think there above all creation.They have no reguard for the people they were hired to protect and the only thing that matters is a conviction.And i do have some very scary stories.Not worth fighting it op...Been there too many times.

Ive met a few good cops over the years, and I am not one of those "f*ck the police" kind of guys. I have never seen these good cops in "action" but after work they are just like you and me, but who knows maybe they are like the cop that pulled me over. I know that they have the ability to ruin your day/life or cut you some slack if you mean no ill will and have the right intentions (like I did). Its f*cking traffic enforcement not law enforcement.

At the end of the day its just a (insured) car on a road...so really what gives. Cops in small wealthy towns like I was pulled over, are just "hall monitors" of a metal box you sit in on 4 rubber round things that roll on asphalt, I doubt they have ever drawn their gun.

It was just totally unnecessary, cops have let me go for a lot worse than having no plate, so I know they can be reasonable.

I ADMIT i was totally at fault for not understanding the MA vehicle laws, thats 100% on me and I should have known better. I know cry me a river, I was just heated when I started this threat to help me vent

I didn't expect there to be so many cop haters here. I though of us as responsible citizens not clowns that blame people for doing their jobs. Its funny I know of several people that drive like jackasses sometimes, but never think the cops are out to get them when they get busted. Then there are people that think the cops are out to get them and get pulled over for "nothing". After asking these "victims" a few question it quickly becomes apparent they have a chip on their shoulder and damn near asking to get pulled over. Yep this cop should of been a bit more understanding and not been a *****, but it happens.

A "Hall Monitor" cop shot one of the Boston bombers and another "Hall Monitor" cop was assassinated before he was able to "draw his gun for the first time ever". You're an ignorant moron who needs to be educated by some more "hall monitor" cops. Luckily for you I have a bunch of friends that work in those "hall monitor" towns and are willing to educate you when you enter their jurisdiction.

Nothing agitates me more than people like you that move to the Northeast from bum**** and have absolutely no clue about reality or your surroundings. You people from out west come here with a sense of entitlement and ignorance and feel that laws don't apply to you and the police are your own indentured servants. The amount of liability that the officer would've opened himself up to by "letting you go" would end his career if something happened. He did the right thing and you're a moron.

Both times I have been pulled over in the last year I have been in the wrong.

One ticket for having the wrong plates on a truck which he had to give me but he also could have impounded my truck and arrested me which he didn't. I was respectful and so was he. No hard feelings just a simple misunderstanding of the law like the op. DA dismissed it at court.

The second time was a speeding ticket in the middle of the night on a 4 lane highway with only one other car in sight. He didn't have to write that ticket or act like the complete a$$hole that he was. I pulled over promptly where there was enough shoulder for him and turned my dome light on and rolled both drivers side windows down. All my replies were yes/no sir and when he asked my excuse I told him I didn't have one. Now if I want to keep a clean driving record for insurance reasons or so I can drive when I separate from active duty I'm paying $500 to a lawyer.

If I was a cop, I would bust your ass in a second for not having a plate or a widow sticker indicating your plate was on its way and you paid the fees.

I broke a record today with my new LML, and it was everything BUT a fun accomplishment...apologize for the rant/ run-on, I am so heated.

Within 30 hours of buying my LML it got impounded, heres the story: (Note: I am a Wyoming resident, I moved to Boston area a few months ago but hadn't switched over the TAXachusetts because I was not sure how long I was staying and my DL and registration on old truck i sold last week was still current, no more explanation needed)

Purchased the truck yesterday morning (3/30/16) from seller in MA, drove straight to work (In MA) with new truck, signed over clear title, bill of sale, and proof of insurance.

I was told by a Boston officer last week that I was legally allowed to drive the vehicle without plates after purchase for up to 10 days before registering with proper paperwork in vehicle at all times (signed clear title, bill of sale, and proof of insurance) which is also the case for many states, including the state I had planned registering the truck in, BUT...that was not the case according to the Weston, MA cop that pulled me over for no plates, so he says.

Said cop pulls me over and I immediately tell him its a new purchase and I have all required paperwork to be driving vehicle without plates or registration. He looked at me with a blank stare, then told me that was not the case. I explained that I was informed by a Boston officer that that was the "case" so we went back and forth in a polite manner (I was just honestly confused). He then goes back to his car and runs all my info and it all checks out, however while he was in his car he had some fun things prepared for me: $101 citation for driving without registration, and called a tow company to impound the new truck. ($143 towing fee)

So of course Im still baffled since I was following the instructions a Massachusetts officer told me last week, yet I still get f*cked. Not sure who to trust here. Now my truck is sitting in a towing yard and wont be released until its registered or I hire a private towing company to pick up and bring to my house 10 miles away. I had planned on registering the new truck again in Wyoming next week since everything in my name is Wyoming still and you can register by mail and phone with out of state vin inspection since there is no actual vehicle inspection in WY. May have to quickly figure out a NH registration with "residence" at my parents house or actually move there while I'm still alive in the state.

ANYONE HAVE ANY INSIGHT ON THIS??????????? ANY COPS THAT KNOW THE REAL RULES??? At this point I don't know who to trust.

Please let me know in this situation HOW if the OFFICER had let "Tacojedbob" off IF the truck was properly PURCHASED, LEGALLY DOCUMENTED (title wise) and INSURED if something happened it would end his career, you're the moron for such an asinine statement and MAYBE read the first post...

DUDE, calm the f*ck down. You clearly didn't understand me, I said there is a difference between TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT AND LAW ENFORCEMENT. Cops in cities like Boston and Cambridge actually protect and serve, cops in small rich suburbs WHERE THERE IS NO CRIME spend their time handing out tickets to meet monthly quotas. How can you actually argue that? How often do you see anyone pulled over in cities?? Not very often, because city cops are too busy "protecting and serving". You must have missed my post that I am not a "cop hater." I RESPECT COPS THAT MAKE SOCIETY BETTER, I don't respect cops that were bullied in high school and became cops to get back at their bullies.

I admitted my fault, I know what I did wrong, I did not intend to break any laws....I started this thread to find out what the truth was because I was told TWO F*CKING DIFFERENT THINGS BY TWO DIFFERENT OFFICERS.

I would have gotten a temp plate but Mass doesn't offer them...I also thought it was a misdemeanor to run non matching plates? Either way I know I should have done some more homework on this...my whole point was that the cop gave me a citation and tow, and I'm sure other cops would understand my "interpretation" and just tell me to drive it home and leave it till it gets sorted out, which I would have done.

In Ohio it is a minor misdemeanor for not running a plate, but if you have proper documentation of recent purchase and the vehicle is in transit you're better off NOT running anything rather than mismatched plates. That's coming from my friend that's a Columbus city police officer.
