Doing all 8 would be best but not always has to be done if that whole bank is the older side id replace the four on that side. But ig the funds are available do all 8 start fresh also doing 20-30% overs woul be good efi live isn't expensive nor hard to get done and would make a much funner truck :thumb:

I did end up driving it. I decided I wanted to take it up to the dealer and have their diesel tech scan it for me. See what they can tell me. I did stop an get a bottle of sea foam and a small bottle of cetane boost and put both in the tank. I'd like to replace all 8 if I can, just have to see how it goes

I found this while digging around. Seems pretty legit, what do yall think?

Not on a bet!

I just had a customer call me swearing at me because the NEW 6.5 AMG/GEP engine that I sold him was a POS and the pistons were slapping.

Later found out that he was running Fleabay injectors. They were Pensacola "marine" injectors.

There is just SO much crap floating around out there.

Replace all 8 with genuine GM/Bosch AND replace all 8 high psi suply lines. Add a lift pump, secondary filter, and quality additive in EVERY tank of fuel that you burn and you will have the absolute best chance of long happy injector life in your LB7.

P.S. Leave them stock and Power Service is NOT a quality additive. Also cetane is not your concern right now. Not driving it is best advice. Very easy to torch a piston when injectors go haywire...

Well just got back from the shop. It's the #7 injector. My guy did not have a tech 2 or anything like that so I do not know what the line pressures or anything is. But he was able to shut down each injector and the only one that didnt really change was the #7. So I am going to replace all 4 on the passenger side. His place is NOT a diesel shop so I know this wasn't the best route, but he offered to do it for free so what could it hurt. He also told me the truck was ok to drive as long as it wasn't letting fuel into the crankcase. He told me give it a real healthy dose of injector cleaner in the fuel tank and run the truck for a few days to try to work out any more crap in the system. If it doesn't get any worse just order and change the passenger side but if it gets worse bring it back to him and make sure I don't need to do drivers side too. What do y'all think? You're not going to hurt my feelings if you say he's full of sh**.

I'd run a compression test on #7 and see what it looks like versus one or two others.

I will run a compression test for sure. That can be done through the glow plug port correct? Do they have special threads or anything like that? And I just bought injectors for the one side from LDS. Figured even if the motor was toast and had no compression in #7 I'd still need the injectors eventually after I rebuilt it.
Also once I get the truck home tonight I don't plan to drive it anymore. And the lift pump with filters is next on my list.

Well I started tearing into it tonight, got it all the way down to the hard lines. Decided to stop there for the night since I don't have the injectors yet (hopefully here tomorrow) I am going to replace all the rubber lines while it's apart and I borrowed the injector removal tool from a friend. Also ordered an airdog Lift pump and filter combo to put on as well. Anybody have any tips or tricks for me as far as changing them out? Besides keeping everything surgical clean.

Got it all taken down today, really wasn't as bad as what everyone told me it was going to be. First Duramax I'd ever messed with and I got it apart in a little over 2 hours. But, the mail man let me down  . Hopefully I'll get it back together Tuesday. I was amazed when I took it apart though, I can't believe my truck ran as long as it did. Whatever back woods shade tree mechanic put these injectors in the passenger side has no business working on a worn out lawn mower let alone a diesel engine! They used what looks like a full tube of Grey rtv to seal the upper valve cover. There was grey goo everywhere. The final kicker, for some ungodly reason the person decided the injector lines needed some rtv in the threads to "seal" them up. What a mess. Drivers side appears to be done properly. Passenger side never stood a chance though. I also found a broken zip tie and a leaf just sitting next to a valve spring.

Got it all done and truck runs better but it's still not perfect  The passenger side is nice and quiet but the drivers side has some injector knock. I took it to my buddies shop, his scanner said it had a cylinder 4 misfire. It doesn't do it all the time, only when I first start it it'll puff a little cloud of smoke and run rough for about 10 seconds. Then it clears up to almost perfect with just a very slight shake and some injector knock on drivers side. Since as far as I know those injectors haven't been changed since 04 over 200,000 miles ago I'm just going to replace them too. That way I'm starting fresh.

So it is a miracle that truck even ran. The deeper into it I get the more problems I find. So far the injectors were bad, which melted a piston. Then I sent the Cp3 to get checked out, it had one seized piston, another sticking, and only one working properly. So I got a new one of them. Then I check on my heads at the machine shop, he tells me the drivers side had 4 bent valves and they were not from the same cylinder as the melted piston. They were from a couple different cylinders, I didn't ask which ones. Two were very noticeably bent and two were only very slightly bent. :( After alllllllllllllll those problems I have to say I am amazed the thing ran as well as it did :spit:. I mean you would think with 4 bent valves, a failing Cp3, and dying injectors that thing would have ran HORRIBLE! But it didn't, it idled smooth and smoke free, and would rev all the way to the limiter without a problem. The only clue something was up was it felt sluggish :baby:. The Duramax is an extremely resilient engine, I have learned that! This has been quite a learning experience for me, and not always a happy one
