The cable bracket interferes with the metal dash piece below the bezel... you must cut it to clear. The plastic bezel is much smaller than the new column. You could likely make a leather/vinyl sleeve to cover the pivot point of the steering column.

Got that CD! :D Guess I should pilfer through it, huh?!?!

Question... I've yet to see any pics of the engine mounts. Specifically, where and how they attach to the frame. Ditto for the front crossmember.

All the pics I've seen, the mounts are either out of view or the engine's just sitting in the bay on stands.

Do you have any showing the engine mounts and front cross member?

Is there a CD that details Dmax swaps SmokeShow?

Bigley at the dieselpage sells a conversion book fthat he wrote using the details of his 04 LB7 swapped into his 88 1500 truck. I bought it, and the only thing I used from it was the templates for the engine mounts.

^^^ that's the guy you need to buddy up with kspen90! He knows the electronics on these trucks well and surely can lend a hand on what can and can't be eliminated.

Strictly just to have a running engine, I believe almost everything associated with the large bale connector that goes btwn the ECM and engine harness (injector harness, sensors, etc.) stays. All the other harnesses from under the fuse block can go except the throttle peddle leads, OBDII cable(s)/plugs and I feel like I'm forgetting something else but its been a loooong time since I've studied the wiring.

Since you have a full donor and plan to keep all that stuff on the interior (gauge cluster, AC, yada), I'd just swap over all of the wiring from one truck to the other.

Crap, just realized I'm not in kspen's thread, sorry Lonnie.

Are you getting back on yours soon? My wife has halfway given me a nod to mess with mine once I wrap up the honey-do list! We'll see if she still feels that way in the spring. LOL

A guy sells, or used to sell, one on ebay. He's member "pussow" on dieselplace. I think at least 90% of his info came from there. He just took the time to put it together and sell. :thumb:

Thanks for the replies guys  I'll be looking these guys up this evening! I'm hoping to have it done by March, but unless disaster hits I'll for sure have it done by this time next year!

You sure do have a lot of nice projects and do top notch work! I'd love to see yours finished :thumb: Mine will not even be close to your standards though as it is strictly a mud truck. I'd like to give you a call sometime next week and pick your brain about a few things if you would be willing to help.

Any updates on this?

I am doing a LS swap from a 01 Z71 into my 87 GMC V1500. I am integrating as much of the wiring as possible as well as instrument cluster, steering column, fuel pump and so on. I have kinda been winging it. Here is my post, if you want to take a look. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=627161

I am at the point now I need to build an instrument cluster set up like yours. Can you provide any advice? Also, how did you shoehorn that heat/ac box in there??

The cluster will be a bear to integrate. Just start cutting & fiber glassing. There is no right way, or easy way for that matter. It may be easier to swap the entire dash. I have seen these done before & they look pretty good.

As far as the heater box, don't do it. Tons of work. You have to rework about every dimension of it to make it fit. Spent weeks on it & regretted it after I started the project.
I was just too stubborn to give up.

Either deal with the factory heater box or try to get an aftermarket under dash setup such as vintage air. It will be much easier.

These two things combined with the wiring was 3x the effort of just doing a Duramax engine swap.

The LS should be easy. Go buy a standalone harness & hook about 10 wires to the existing truck. Leave the rest stock & you will be enjoying it in no time. May not be what you want to hear, but it is the best advice I can give.
