4-6" lift kit & drag racing

For those of you running a 4-6" lift kit who drag race, what needs to be done besides lowering front end all the way and pulling rear blocks? Do I need limiting straps? Spring clamps? I don't have traction bars. Whole front end is beefed up. Haven't made a pass on this lift kit. Makes me a bit nervous.

I've made one soft 4wd launch and the front end lifted to the moon with Bilstein 5100's. Felt abnormal. I'm sure there was plenty of tire toe-in. That's got to kill your 60'.

What do you have done to your front end currently? I just lower the front all the way down, clamp the springs, crank the Rancho 9000's to there hardest setting and go! I'm only running 2" blocks and never felt the need to remove them.

Dont do it without traction bars. My truck wasnt even cranked up that high and the axle wrap caused the lift block to shoot out, destroyed the driver side of my bed, my driveline and yoke. Granted my lift blocks were worn a little, but traction bars are cheap insurance against that damage.

I'm running stock front driveshaft. Front end has Cognito HD tie-rods, support brace kit, t-case brace. I would remove 2.5" rear blocks to eliminate axle wrap. Wondering if I'll be okay without traction bars.

Best 60' before lift kit was 1.76 on Cooper Discoverer STT mud tires.

Currently running 285/75 Falken Wildpeak A/T's on pyo's.

Which front propshaft are you using? Stock or aftermarked dual cardan?
My cognito shaft snapped!
I also had to install traction bars, had bad axle wrap with the Deaver leaf springs.

I dunno I made close to 50 passes with my lly without issue had duel cp3s htt turbo .....6" deavers and just lowerd the front end. I would cut low 1.7s with the mud terrains.never a issueof broken parts? I used the cognito front shaft and only added thing for racing was the clamps

Nick @ Norcal (sold me Cognito 4-6" NTBD) warned me of extreme front driveshaft vibration in 4wd above 35 mph. Tried to sell me an aftermarket shaft around $450.00.

Do any of you experience vibration in front shaft?

everytime i left off the throttle! lol it seems to be hit or miss on the 4-6" lifted truck.

If it helps, ive had mine lifted for the last 6-7 years and still running the stock front drive shaft. its also been down the strip many times with and without traction bars. just make sure your u-bolts are tight. I think your over thinkin the lifted part of the truck. as long as you drop the front like every one else has to, you will be just fine. i made many passes without strapping the front too till my previous time to the track.

make sure your idler/pitman arm show no signs of wear, your tie rods are good, lower the front and go have fun. dont try to be the fastest off the bat, take your time to understand how the truck reacts at higher or lower boosted launches and have fun with it.

I need to go practice. T-bars are cranked a bit but CV angles look flat. Maybe they would be okay for a soft launch. I hate having to let them all the way. Just paid $60 for an alignment.

Just mark where the bolt's are, as long as you get them back to the same place when you're done racing alignment shouldn't be an issue. With your front end lifting like you say it does, I would lower the bars all the way, so you actually have a negative angle on your cv's, that way when you launch and the front end lifts, the cv's will be level like they are supposed to be.:thumb:

I guess you just got lucky, my Cognito front driveshaft was holding up also for about 40 passes. But then it just snapped.
My axle wrap was so bad that the rear driveshaft was hitting the yoke.
But I didnt have spring clamps or anything at that time.

im running a TC 4inch lift and just crank the T bars down with my traction bars out back. I cut 1.67's all day long on 33" Toyo AT's and run 11.60's

I would really run something in the back, you have a lot of leverage against you with that lift not to have trac bars. If it is aligned with some lift on the T bars, that is fine just lower then all the way down at the track (but bring a jack to take some weight off so you can put it back). I run a straight centerlink with the 9000xls and have no issues with it, never got that great of a 60 but always had poor track prep. start soft and work your way up off the line
