We have been working on a 2006 RCLB LBZ for a while now. The guy bought it from another customer in the parking lot and left it with us wanting it to run 6s in the 1/8 when he got it back. It was stock except intake and exhaust. After talking to him, we concluded he did not want a built motor or to run the stock motor on the brink, so we laid out a build plan to get to his goals with the least power possible. We had a GTS fiberglass body here that another customer backed out on so the first focus was weight reduction. We did fiberglass doors, front bumper, front clip, bed sides, and tailgate skin. We got rid of any unnecessary crossmembers, mounts, etc. on the frame. We fully deleted the HVAC system. Couldn't talk the guy into going short bed and getting a better weight bias, so it stayed long bed. We also wanted to get the best weight distribution we could so we relocated a single battery to the rear, installed a 5 gallon fuel cell at the rear, mounted a trans cooler and fan behind the cab, mounted an aluminum universal radiator behind the cab with dual electric fans, and converted to electric water pump. Those things all reduced weight and parasitic drag on the motor. We now have a short belt that goes from the crank to power steering to the altenator (mounted in a dual alt spot), then it hits an idler on the way back to the crank.

Then we focused on the suspension - for the rear we:
  • Went to a single stock top leaf spring
  • Did an axle over conversion
  • Flipped the shackle hangers over and mounted them low on the frame with longer shackles
  • Got Cal-Tracs made for an axle over conversion
  • Added a Compitetion Engineering anti-roll bar
  • Did adjustable shock mounts from Competition Engineering on the axle and made an upper shock mount crossmember
  • QA1 double adjustable coil over shocks (without coils right now)

For the front we:
  • DJM 6" drop upper and lower control arms
  • No front sway bar
  • Modified frame to allow more downward travel
  • Made custom upper shock mounts
  • QA1 DD701 double adjustable coil overs with 450 lb Hyperco 14" springs
We deleted the ABS, added a line lock for the front, and a proportioning valve for the rear. We dropped the body 2" by deleting the bushings on the cab and core support.
We did a full billet build on the transmission. We installed manifolds, up-pipes, Pro-Fab Y-bridge and cold side tube, made a 3" hood stack, his S&B intake, and a custom lift pump setup we designed for it that has 15 PSI of static pressure and 105 PSI at full boost. So we took it out on stock turbo and fuel system to see what it would do and get the suspension dialed in.

We took it out to Rudy's truck Jam to start making some passes on it and went 7.40 @ 96 on the 2nd pass. Didn't get to play with the tuning at all as we had to dial it back to run the 7.70 index class and dialed in a 7.70 in the ET class too.

We still need to dial in the suspension and tuning. The single leaf is a little too soft and after a few passes it ended up with a negative arch - we are going to steal the top 2 springs out of another pack and install on it. I am going to have some custom brake pads made that have a lot better cold bite so we can stall up higher on this converter.

This is just phase 1 to give us a chance to iron out all the kinks while on a safe, reliable, predictable setup. Gonna see how far we can take it on stock fuel and air. The guy has much bigger plans.

I don't think that was accurate - it was with a 130 lb driver but I think the tires were deforming around the pads on the scales and touching the load cells. Once we fixed that it was 4260 IIRC. It still has both stock seats and a full interior except door panels, so we could strip a good bit more from inside the cab and we didn't cut anything in the frame or anything. Still plenty of wiggle room to keep it at 4500 lbs with a cage, he just needs to decide if it will be Super Street or Pro Street.

Pretty bad ass for a stock air and fuel truck.. what's that equate to in 1/4 mile?

I seen this on Insta. Nice looking build and impressive for stick air and fuel. Looks to be capable of 9s with some more power

Nice to see you got it together and put down such a great pass. Wish I could have been there, but I had my sons 3rd birthday party. Still haven't made it to Rudys yet, I'll have to swing out to your shop and come see y'all soon...

Thanks for the compliments guys. I think with a trap of 96 and it's weight it'll be low 11s in the 1/4. I really want to try for 10s before we add any performance parts.

Troy, at one point almost every truck in the left staging lane had a Diesel Addiction sticker - pretty good feeling.

Another truck that impressed me was Calvin's LBZ lifted 8" on 37s running 7s in 2WD.

I could not believe how his truck was running! Looked nasty to with the slicks on the back and 37s still up front lol

We took it to a 1/4 mile track last week and the old 225K mile CP3 and injectors couldn't hold the rail pressure I was hoping they would - she was fading fast after the 1/8. Managed an 11.55 @ 117 out of it. Beat the record by a good bit, but with a fresh stock fuel system I know it would be a good bit better. I am tempted to drop new stock stuff in it just to go push that record further, but the customer is ready for some real power and real fun. Would also like to spend so more time on the suspension - the video of the last pass shows some light under the front tires even though it was a only 1.71 60'. Have some things in mind to hit the tires with power and not have the suspension all bound up getting on boost.

Now the fiberglass is all at the paint shop and we are moving on to phase 2. A Forced Inductions ETR-HO S485/96/.90T4 front mounted, S&S 300% over injectors, S&S 14mm CP3, Wagler intake manifold, intercooler delete, new valve springs and pushrods. We'll see how long she'll live with very low torque and high power, but we are already working on a motor for it.
