Geez, and I was getting a little concerned over my LB7 dropping down to 30 psi at a hot idle on a 100 degree day with 5W40 ROTELLA with a 600 idle(680 idle will hold right at 40 even hot idle). I guess my LB7 must be a fluke off as it holds some pretty high oil pressure no matter what oil I run or how hot out it is. Cold she slams right up to 70 at idle and drops down to 35 at idle when hot at 600 RPM's. After 1000 though she tends to hold 45-50, and even on a 100 degree day towing she will still go up to 65 or so when I get on it even with the 5W40 oil. 15W40 was even higher oil pressure, but she spins over MUCH better with 5W40.
.

Hey Ferm... Do you know a guy that goes by BoiseBiker?

Ben,

Sorry for the OT... :)

Ben,

Look for Mystik 15W-50 HDEO oil at a tractor supply or farm store.

Here's a link...

http://docs.mystiklubes.com/msds_pi/M20003.pdf

FWIW, I've been running Delo 10w30 since February with Schaeffer's 15w40 on the shelf waiting for the temps to get consistently around 100 degrees. It hit 100 yesterday but Boise's temps are dropping back down into low 80's by Friday. I will change out the 10w30 when it stays hot or if we take the trailer camping which will be sometime after July 4th...

Rob i checked the link there does Mystik have any NON synthetic
it does seem like a good oil, i wouldnt mind trying some.

the spec for engine oil HOT at idle is 14 psi. i wouldn't worry about imo

yes im well aware of that.....

but after hearing the faint sporadic knocking at 16psi and having blown up two engines, Id rather see a lot more than the "minimum spec".

i really think the twin turbos are adding a ton of extra heat to the oil.

before twins my truck had great oil pressure when hot out, i'd say close to 40 at idle and 60psi goin 55-60mph at 1700 rpms.

now with twins its 20-25 idle and just over 40 at 55mph...

i'm thinking of 20-50 or a 15-50, there is even a 15-60w made by penlube

going to try running 20-50 in the summer i guess and see if it makes a difference

another thing ive noticed with the 20w-50 is that my oil doesnt turn BLACK anymore. With 15-40 rotella the oil would turn black within 1 mile of driving. With this 20w-50 its still dark amber after ~500 miles.

Thats what I went to. I stopped using the off the shelf stuff, as Ben said, turns black in no time and i just did not like it. The Schaeffer's Ive been running has produced more PSI and looks a hell of a lot better when I change it.

Plus it only costs me $100.00 for six gallons :D

I agree I love the oil and the price. I have used it for a while in my (Sorry Guys I'm Reformed now) 2002 Ford 7.3 Power Stroke. Geese I feel bad for typing THAT!!!

DURAMAX FOREVER NOW!!!!:happy2:

I have nowhere to get schaeffers here in town from where I have looked. I did however swap in some 15w-50 today and gained 9-10PSI hot idle over the Rotella. Before the change today its 98 degrees outside and i was seeing 15-16 hot PSI. No bueno
